Greetings fellow commanders!

The fluff of the steel legion has long been one of my favourite pieces and although I am guard player since 4th edition, I never had the opportunity to make a steel legion army. Now I am my own man and can endulge myself in a long postponed project.

I present you with Fieldmarshal Alexander Magnus Voltarius accompanied by his trusted command staff.

and the group shot of the glorious 15th, at least what I have done so far:

gallery_94482_14745_1886364.jpg

Now these are very much still WiP. I haven't done much highlighting... well tbh I haven't even got to the final base colour... it still seems too dark. I'm using a base of steel legion drab mixed with ushabti bone. Now unfortunately I have run out of bases so only have 1 squad of guardsmen finished, the command squad, the company commander and 2 strom troopers. More will come!

DKoK always look great and you've done an brilliant job so far!

So will these continue to be Steel Legion if and when the DKoK get a proper codex treatment?

Either way where the tanks at?

Thanks! I think they'll stay as steel legion... that is unless I get my hands on some deathriders... then you never know. The fun thing with armageddon is that if catachan infantry ever get released then I can easily add them as armageddon ork hunters.

The tanks are at a mates' house... but I can assure you that 3 chimerae, 2 LRBT and a basilisk are waiting for action ;)

Ok Duz made me paint an Ogryn...

gallery_94482_14745_1091383.jpg

I'm satisfied with it. Apart form the eyes... I hate painting eyes... let's just say the regiment's ogryns have been blinded since it actually showed an increase in suceptibility to orders and thus increasing their battlefield efficiency by 0,00001%.

Thinking about finishing this project...

This a list that I would like to play with. Don't know if it's amy good.

Both tank commanders would become aces with the - 1dmg ability and the bassie would get the fixed dmg ace ability for 2d6 DD6 shots with the vigilus strat.

Thoughts?

With all the free time I'm painting up my armies... Getting back to the Steel Legion.

Some one earlier said "where's the armour?", well here is a small glimpse...

gallery_94482_14745_333484.jpg

I think I'm going to repaint my infantry into a lighter colour set so they don't blend in their muddy bases.

Ok so have written a small fluffe piece for the next model I've finished. Some critique would be nice.

It was the alarm sirens that woke Egil Broadfang from his slumber. It had been weeks since the space wolves’ assault on the ork fleet of The Beast, Ghazkull Thraka. They were part of the widescale operation to hunt down the ork warlord and bring his reign of terror to an end. He had moved from fenris with 10 ships, among them his own strike cruiser – The Icefang and had cornered the foe near Artemis secundus, a dead world in the Scarus Sector. Somehow the orks new they were coming and prepared an ambush with cunning that was rarely attributed to such beasts. The imperial fleet had been massacred, with The Icefang left as a drifting hulk, it’s enginges damaged beyond the point of repair. Then the orks left in search of more battle. The Space wolves sent out distress signals with little hope of a fast response and as was thought still any help was yet to come so Egil had allowed himself to sleep more regularly, especially since the ship’s mjod reserves had somehow survived the carnage. But since the deck had sounded the alarm, some relief must have arrived and joyful thoughts of revenge flooded the battle leader’s mind. He rushed to the command deck in regular robes, barking commands to the chapters serfs to make ready his armour and weapons. Fjolnir Trygyv, the wolf priest that was commissioned to the mission, was already on the deck. He was wearing full battle armour, his wolf-skull helmet tucked under his arm. Their was enmity between Egil and Fjolnir, the former being primaris and a new recruit at that, while the latter was firstborn and full of pride. That being said, Egil did rely on Fjolnir’s experience and counsel as the old wolf was much better versed in imperial lore than the battle leader. “Status report Fjolnir, what is it?”. “It looks like one hell of a battle fleet, at least 20 ships, but don’t worry, they are all Imperial” the wolf priest replied nodding to the deck’s viewport. Egil Broadfang let out a grin when the huge bulk of an Emperor class battleship loomed into view.

***

Egil paced the length of the waiting hall for the hundredth time. They boarded the battleship Emperor’s Wrath 3 hours ago and were kept waiting in the confines of a messhall normally dedicated to receiving ambassadors and imperial biurocrats. “Who dares keep us wait for so long? The men are getting weary” he raged at the wolf priest. “Good things come to those who wait, pup” replied Fjolnir. Egil was about to rebout the insult his advisor had given him when the blast doors to the messhall opened. Through them came a squad of soldiers drabbed in sand-coloured uniform, a grey heavy carapace and gasmasks adorned with a skull motiv over their whole surface. He had heard of such warriors, the Militarum Tempestus, stormtroopers of the imperial guard. Even though they never fought side by side he could see by their armament that they were a dangerous weapon, potentially even for a space marine. The lead individual spoke in high gothic when he reached their position “Space Wolves, the war council will receive you now”. “About damn time!” roared Egil. The soldiers turned as one on the spot and lead the space wolves out, almost unnoticeably assuming an escorting formation. Egil took note that, as they set out of the messhall, the stormtroopers talking to themselves or to some other listener, over a private vox network that sounded only as a string of clicks and static to an outside ear. Finally the arrived at a large chamber with a dias at it’s centre – there stood an array of figures, ranging from battle sister canonesses to magos of the mechanics but one figure was evidentially the centre of their attention. The figure was dressed in a black leather waistcoat and an officer’s cap which easily betrayed him a being a Commissar of the Astra Militarum – a ruthless individual and utterly unbreakable. His back was turned to the space wolves, one arm folded behind it while the other, invisible to Egil was place on the dias. The man was flanked by a duo of Black Templar space marines, their arms crossed, with long white capes dropped from their shoulders. As Egil and his company approached the leader of the council, one of the Templars took voice “Show respect wolf!”, he barked, the contempt easy to make out in his voice. Egil was about to fall into a berserk storm of cusses and rage when he noticed that Fjolnir and the rest of his men were kneeling. He spun on his heel to order them to get to their feet, in his mind space marines ought to kneel before their kind alone, a notion that was more often sighted since the return of Roboute Guilliman. It was then that the wolf priest interrupted his chain of thought. “Hero of the Imperium!” Fjolnir exclaimed. “On your knees whelp!”. Egil turned to see the man in black standing now before him. The Commissars guilded cuirass was adorned with many medals and insignia of the Emperor of Mankind but what caught the eye more was a huge ork power klaw which protuded from the man’s elbow. It was in this moment that Egil new he stood before a living legend. When the man spoke he sucked the air out of the room, he had the attention of every single person in the room, Egil now on his knees among them. “You have failed to slay the beast, battle leader. Have no fear for where you have failed we shall prevail. The time for chasing is over, now we wait for beast to come to us. Admiral, set course to Armaggedon”.

An the model in question:
