Choosing Detachments for 2000+ games

I play with a small group of friends using power levels and only recently ventured out into the world and played at stores with points.  The single Battalion I use is suitable for power levels but not robust enough for the 2000 point games being played, so I have to choose additional detachment(s).  Is there any preference to a second (or third) detachment or will any do as long as it fits your play style.  I suspect this may have something to do with CPs.

Thanks in advance,

At 2000 points you should be easily able to fill a brigade (depending on the models you own) so always go for that as 12cps is brilliant.

The other detachments can’t really offer anything to compete with that unless you’re running Lords of War.

If you don’t own enough/the right models for a brigade then just get another battalion. If where you play doesn’t allow duplicate detachments then just choose the one that suits your play style :)

Indeed, as mentioned a Brigade is quite easily done should you have need of all the role choices (and that's easy too ;) ). Otherwise a Battalion to get the bulk of your army down always works well, then you can flavour as needs require :) Realistically though, the "standard" detachments are normal for Guard as whatever elements you take usually want some troopers to help escort them. The only exception as again mentioned is if you want to roll out a Lord of War, but that's another easy choice for Guard in the Supreme Command detachment usually.

Personally I'm not a fan of IG brigades (mainly because the toys I like are too expensive to fit into it)

With CP changes dual battalion + spearhead or vanguard should have you sitting pretty especially with CP farming WL and relic if necessary.
