P.S. don't underestimate BA Intercessor Sergeants with Power Sword and Auxiliary Grenade Launcher. Those guys regularly do a lot of work in my army. 3 S4 AP-3 attacks with +1 to-wound and shooting krak grenades at basically anything on the table you want within 30" range is really good for a puny basic troop sergeant lol

I'm not saying they are. I'm just saying they're no Sanguinary guard, which is what you generally play BA for as I understand it :P

Also....again, I agree SIA is nice, but no one's really explained why it's good for Primaris. What weapons does it affect for them other than the Intercessor Bolt weapons? Or is that generally considered enough?

SIA with the Bolt Rifle is nuts, with a 30” Rapidfire AP-1 gun then the option of wound on 2’s or +6” Range AP-2 or -6” Range AP-3 is huge. See a monstrous creature no problem wound on 2’s, see Chaos Marine at 17” no problem eat fouble tapping -2 AP, oh that Vehicle, I need 5’s to wound but your at -3 Armor. That is on the lowly Bolt Rifle.

Note with the volume of fire from Agressors it would either be way too expensive or overpowered to give SIA to them dispite how ssxy it would be.

Not saying you do. Was just a random FYI.

Well mostly Intercessors and Reiver, really.

Stalker Bolt Rifle with Hellfire rounds? Yes, please. A unit with 36" range, always wounding on 2+ (not vehicles) with AP-2 is awesome! That of course goes for any of the Bolter variants. Wounding on 2+ with volume of shots or decent mix of everything is always good.

Bolt Rifle with Kraken bolts? Who wouldn't want rapid fire at 18" with S4 AP-2?

Bolt Carbines with Kraken bolts? Sure why not! Assault 2 at 30" with S4 AP-1. Just run circles around your opponent!

A bit more oomph? Bolt Rifle with Vengeance round. Only rapid fire at 12" (like regular Bolter!) but with S4 AP-3 now! Or turn your Bolt Carbine into a Assault 2 at 18" with S4 AP-2 weapon.

SIA makes Intercessors of every kind and Reivers SO much more deadly. But wait there's more!

Add an Aggressor to your Intercessors and you don't just get even more firepower at 18", you can also advance without penalty to your Bolt Carbine or move without penalty to your stalker bolt rifle.

Add an Inceptor and your Interceptors can fall back and still shoot the same turn!

Add a Reiver and your opponents units get -1 LD when within 3" the unit.

It's not called Primawatch for no reason. Not because the Primaris outshine the rest of the Codex but because it's the only Marine Codex so far that actually really supports Primaris units.

The big thing in the Deathwatch codex that shines for Primaris is the ability to move the units around quickly or deploy via teleportation through the relics and strategems available.

I do agree that Dark Angels do have some lovely synergy with plasma Hellblasters, as well as the addition of the Dark Shroud and the unique flyer that's really impressive.

The Repulsor is an underrared unit imo, I should mention. T8 with fly is key.

Also, don't forget that Ultramarines with Guilliman can still do some work although they suffer especially when it comes to board control and the Primarch does cost a LOT of points now.

Well yeah Marines have the best developed background in 40k. They're GWs poster boys for a reason. Just be glad that you aren't considering Chaos Marines as well. :biggrin.:

Soooo about that. I would like some Chaos Marines eventually. I just haven't looked at them too closely since I'm trying to do one army at a time. Thousand Sons and Iron Warriors are pretty badass from what I've read so far.

Aaaand down the rabbit hole you go! :D

At this point with everything you are considering to play you better just look for used army for sale and look for a deal. Plenty of folks sell marine armies.

Will definitely do that. Hopefully they come unpainted so I don't have to pay a killing for all those "pro painted" armies I find.

Just read up on the Raven Guard and I have to add this one to the list of chapters to brainstorm on. Good grief the lore is a lot better than I thought it would be.

It's personal preference but I myself would never pay more than ~60% retail price for second hand models and even less for already painted models. Makes it really hard to find second hand models so I basically gave up on that and just buy new ones at 20% off. There I can be sure that everything is in order and complete. ^^

Damn that’s sad, beside the primaris range I see tons of used marines at about 50% off in my area. Facebook groups makes it easy to spot. Many players don’t bother doing more than primer and colours on the shoulder so it’s pretty easy to paint on.

I still had to buy my primaris boxes tho, it seems these are too new and less players are selling them, and also the dark imperium was a pretty good value with a buddy playing nurgle.

Well if they are on sprue, come with manual and all the bits you can of course buy, but if the price isn't significantly better you should be supporting the local stores imo.

In some places buying used and supporting the game store can go together as well :)
