Wow. I love them! I am surprised though.... I am used to seeing very 'clean' models from you, but if you've seen my White Scars you know I love them with battle damage. I think you nailed this.

I actually really like the Reiver models, but they are in tough now. I have a large squad myself. Great job! :tu:

Thanks alot brother! Yeah No more cleaness! My other armies is battledamaged so why not the scars i asked myself :)

I really like the reivers, and Im still going to field them. I guess They Will charge in to glorious death but its all good. Only in Death does duty end

I like it. A lot more realistic imo. I have no trouble with the super clean stuff.. .I've done it to many of my own armies, just to me the White Scars are a great palette for that kind of look.

Thanks! Yeah i much prefer the battered look, i do have Heresy World eaters and really think White armour is great to show damage. And realisticly speaking White armour/clothing/shoes/cars doesnt look that white after some use

What approach went into that lovely battle damage? :)

:) thank you! I block all colors in and complete all colors and transfers followed by a sparingly sponging of rhinox hide followed by a ssatin varnish coat. Then the fun begins -> a very liberal all over wash/coat of Tamiya black panel liner oil -> dry for like 20-30 mins. Then take a small used brush and some white spirits and start rubbing away at the panel oil. I try to rub away most at places where I think light would hit or where I think contrast between white and black should be big

Seal with a varnish :)

First rate stuff... but you gotta remove the mold lines. It really hurts to see such nice looking models with egregious mold lines.

Thanks a lot bro! Yeah I know...that huge line was missed by me, it appeared so starkly after the weathering. But in general I’m bad at removing mold lines so thanks for the critique!

I recognize my failings and make sure to correct it

Agreed, that's why my Scars have always looked like they've been to hell and back. And yea, especially white! You send me to a BBQ with a fresh white shirt on, I'll come back looking like I killed a hundred Orks!

Thanks guys!

No mold lines... excellent. 10/10!

Thanks man! I did my best :)

Guys! I’m getting confused with 9 ed. There’s so much releases so I feel like I don’t know what books etc I need anymore. Just glanced a new SM codex and a new tank variant. What do I need book-wise? Guys, help me!

At this point just buy what shiny object GW tells you to buy.  If that strikes you as a bit exploitative or shabby, then there is always chess.

Tonights progress:

Im pretty happy with the reivers. Ive never liked the models and have thought of them comical, but I think Ive succeded in making them scary :)

Consider getting pdfs of the books. GW goes through them so quickly that they're not a great money investment anyway.

I agree there’s a flood of books in a short time. Thanks for the advice!

Johanhgg ... what is your formula for the extra dirty White Scars?

I do the white by airbrushing greys and whites in zenital highlighting way, leaving black as shadows under arms, between legs etc. all other colors are done as well, the blacks, reds etc. a sparingly sponging of rhinox hide is followed by the transfers. After that a satin varnish the whole model. When dry I apply a very liberal all over wash of tamiya black panel liner oil and let dry for 20 mins. A small brush and white spirits is used to rub away the dry oil in places where I think the white should be more visible, like where light hits or where I think it would add character to the model.

Another varnish after that and the eyes, scopes and other small “display”-type of details is painted with white base and a coat of akhelian green or whatever the hell that contrast is called :)

How much time do tamiya wash give you to work with after application?

I've been using Mr Hobby weathering washes.. .they dry really quick so you have about 15 mins before removal is difficult.  I think they are some sort of enamel wash rather than an oil wash... or is that the same thing?

Whatever the terminology... mr hobby dries very quickly relative to oil paint based washes that can be removed even days later.
