Aegir_Einarsson
-1AP is they’re biggest minus. But flag D3 is huge advantage. And i don’t think that they’re best AT with S7. shanewatts
Twin stormcannon Leviathan, Can deepstrike, make itself reroll 1s to hit (and other units within 6"), reroll 1s to wound if your mission tactic matches, and get +1 to wound with the strat with 20 shots at str7 -2ap 2d. Will delete most any unit on arrival, and cannot be killed before it shoots if you put it in the teleportarium. I loved my Xiphon, but it is vulnerable to alpha strike. Lemondish
I think dreads are really easy to kill with only eight wounds - if say dark eldar go first it could be lights out. You can only put some many units in deep strike reserve. Go with the Chaplain dread then For 30 points over a ven dread (assuming the same build) you get a 5++ Dreadnought with the Character keyword. He can also help pay your HQ tax if you're having issues with it in your list. Sure, you're limited to ccw instead of being able to go with the missile launcher, and giving him backfield AT duty means he's not using the Icons of Hate buff, but ultimately that's not a big trade off. Re: The Xiphon - I proxied one in over the weekend, but didn't make many changes to my list to remove the AT solutions I had already put in. I played it very, very cautiously - deploying it last, and on the other side of the board, etc. My opponent couldn't reach it with a vast majority of their firepower, and the extra -1 to hit really helped keep it alive. I did notice they seemed to move in range of it first turn to alpha it down as fast as possible, which had the board looking a lot like their army was made of metal and the Xiphon was a giant magnet pulling them to the corner. So that's a funny experience - will try it out again when I get another practice game in. BLACK BLŒ FLY
The only dread I would consider is the Leviathan. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348888-anti-tank/page/2/#findComment-5129186 Share on other sites
Lemondish
The only dread I would consider is the Leviathan. A pity it's become such a major crutch for all marine armies. Will we see it get the nerf hammer come Chapter Approved? Probably doubtful, so I'm assuming deep strike Levi cheese is here to stay. vigitant
I was poking around looking for the perfect anti-tank for my Deathwatch at higher points and I'm surprised no one mentioned Armiger Helverins. I haven't tried using them, but they look freakin' great in theory. Yeah, 2 armigers and a knight can be a pretty solid addition. Get some CP, net 1 CP after you buy a warlord trait and a relic(I like the 4++ and relic fist, myself). Edit: Also, I can second the Chaplain Vendread. As to the CCW, run it up the field screening it. 3+ rerolling 1's isnt that much different from 2+, and he's an absolute beast in melee. My only issue so far I've had with Knights is that they're CP hungry...but so is DW. Agreed on the Chaplain Vendread. I've been building mine using the Blood Angels Death Company Dread plate with the giant skull thanks to someone's suggestion somewhere else on this board. Great idea, even if I can't remember who it was off the top of my head haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348888-anti-tank/page/2/#findComment-5129279 Share on other sites
BLACK BLΠFLY
Seriously what Nid player doesn't bring some Flyrants even with the point increase ? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348888-anti-tank/page/2/#findComment-5129321 Share on other sites
FabulousRex
Hmm, pure support option, but a DA spearhead of 3 hunters and a libby casting debuffs ain't bad. Lt for the cheaper option. Hunters reroll to hit natively, and are 270 for 3. Could go BA for smash support too....
