One Knight

Spaz

Recommended Posts

I've been secretly working on a small adeptus mechanicus force. Mostly gun line with a few vanguard speed bumps (in theory, I've never played a game yet, but am hoping to change that).

With that said, if you could have only one knight to incoperate with this force which one would it be?

I may get more knights down the line but will most likely want to paint them differently.

Thank you for any advice.

I would recommend playing a game with what you have and filling in the gap. But in general

Massive threat to deal with asap is a gallant.

All rounder is a warden with stormspear

Or crusader with thermal and stormspear for maximum fire support.

You want any of the above in close combat to get the most out of them it just depends what your army needs them to do along the way

Agreed, it depends on the role you need filling. Gallant, Warden and Crusader are all good choices in the right setting. Even a lone Raven Castellan can be good with Ion Bulwark and Cawls wrath but that it 600 points dedicated to deleting tanks and (very) heavy infantry. Does your list need that role?

In a vacuum, I would lean towards a Stormspear Warden, possibly with a Gauntlet just in case you need to Deathgrip something.

My vote - at least if we're only talking Q-knights, is the Warden. Just get that kit, you'll be able to magnetise everything to make a Gallant and Crusader as well which are the other two Q-Knights worth owning.

The Warden is the wonderful middle ground between the Gallant and Crusader. You've our best in anti-horde firepower (and most consistent ranged weapon) coupled with our best CC weapon. Need more firepower? Add a magnetised Thermal and instant Crusader. Want to save points and win in assault? Add a magnetised Reaper and voila, instant Gallant.

Want a seriously flexible Knight that can take all comers? Use your Warden.

i'll second that it sounds like any of them would do well and be helpful, big stompy ranged support (and still decent melee) with a crusader or an angry threatening monster with a gallant, so really whatever you find cooler should probably be the choice, as i always try to tell myself, "rules change, models remain"... alternatively, the renegade box set barely costs that much more than a single knight, so get that and make one of each! (thats what iam doing)

@brother_b- No worries, I have spent many a night in Bangkok, but never had one like that. Lol

@Karhedronuk- Unfortunately without having played a game a vacuum is the best place to start.

@Reinhard- Out of all the Smaller knights the Warden, Castigator and Atrapos stand out to me the most.

@Stray- Thank you for that break down, I do like the look of the warden with the points you made, it sounds like that would be the best fit for my AdMech.

@carnosaur93- I didn't even consider the renegade box set. That's a very solid point, and it would give me a spare knight for a possible knight army. I try and theme my guys simalliarly (both in paint scheme and bases), so only one knight for my AdMech.

Thank you all for the advice, it really is appreciated.. I'll put in an order for the renegade box set and build a warden.

Hopefully thats a good choice  .... Because Ive done the same thing lol. I plan on using the Warden (Endless Fury relic) with the Thunderfist and a couple Warglaives to fight alongside my Warhawks <Raven Guard> 2k list. Then I'll add a Knight Errant (Ravager relic) and a couple Helvetics and a third big Knight when I go "all in" on Knights :)

Have to agree with most of the Frater here, the Warden is a safe all-rounder with the Errant a great choice if you need a potent melee threat and the Crusader an obvious option if you need a critical ranged threat.  Questoris-Class Knights can honestly be built to handle nearly any role, and for the ambitious magnetizing can ensure your Knight will never be without a niche.
