chapter master 454
If it were once per battle round it might of been excusable but as it stands, this is a trait we have seen in other armies as well as "Trait Filler" which is just bad all round. I mean, I understand whoever wrote the codex felt pressured and the like but who honestly thought that was good design? Use some simple methods to find out what people think. However, thankfully this isn't as hard to fix as other things are in another codex that this forum may or may not of been primarily about (both of them in fact) and it can easily come in "Updated Warlord traits" for armies in say Chapter Approved where each army can have an extra set of warlord traits, another 6, to pick from. Failing that, just updating the current ones WITH ONE SIMPLE thing to remember: Not everything needs touched. Seneschal does not need touched and find it a reasonable trait for knights, while it is niche it does have a use and on knights +1 attack means a lot more than on standard HQs in other armies as it can count as an extra 3 attacks or be backed by a massive chainsword that does 6 a go! Blessed by the sacristans really needs a change that makes it better just in general. While cute it really isn't worth much by itself and only on fringe cases and even then PURELY on AGCs. That I would alter to actually benefit random shot weapons more, ether attaching an extra dice and then keep the highest or possibly just getting to re-roll one of the dice when rolling for it. Though it isn't a bad trait, just only good of AGCs (or Stubbers if you are a madmen! XD) Fearsome Reputation is not bad but sadly the effect is lacklustre. To be honest, it could do with a second part to the trait, possibly applying the debuff from the trait to any targets struck by the warlords attack outright. It isn't a bad trait, just it is bad because morale is bad. Finally, Cunning Commander needs something else to it. The free re-roll is so underwhelming compared to the other traits it's laughable. It needs re-worked hard. As much as I would LOVE to make it a CP recycler, it would lead to very awkward issues in game that might need a FAQ however I think it could be something more interesting. Since knights like to use certain stratagems a lot, possibly have this trait be a unique one in relation to Matched Play: Each Time you use a stratagem, roll a die. On a 5+ you can use that stratagem again this phase. This can only happen once per stratagem. It is a form of design that isn't aggressively anti-casual and to be honest, trying to pander towards Casuals AND dedicated players then you are pandering towards casuals, a sad case really. However, if you target dedicated players but remember to not exclude casuals entirely (something the core rules did well) then you can have things both players can enjoy. Just remember, the core of most games is a competitive scene which 40k does have so you need to make sure they come first but casuals a nice solid 2nd. Remember, casuals got apocalypse in the last chapter approved while more hard core players got some nice new missions and some rather unfavoured point changes that we weren't all too happy with. brother_b
I guess it was better when we had less command points before they boosted batallions etc. The trait should be changed to you gain D3 or D6 command points. Then it would be a possibility. Stray
Don't forget 'Blessed by the Sacrisans' can be applied to feet also. On something like a Gallant - especially if you were running say House Griffiths - it can put in some fairly serious work vs hordes. That's quite a lot of dice to be throwing around. One or two of the FW Knights can make decent use of it also, especially as Relic weapons are typically not an option for them.
