9x19 Parabellum
So I bought my first box of fire warriors to make up a Kill Team. And for the first time, I noticed they are only supposed to be modeled with should pad armour on their left arm. I'm not sure I like the look of this, and was wondering about putting pauldrons on both arms. Anybody done this? How's it look? Panzer
It looks nice for some important model like a Fireblade or a Leader maybe but I wouldn't do it for every model tbh. You only need your shield to the front where the enemy is, not to the back where your allies are. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349289-double-shoulder-pads/#findComment-5135588 Share on other sites
9x19 Parabellum
Bad guys have been known to shoot at you from the right flank also, SFPanzer. I don't like it. It's asymmetrical and that's really chaffing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349289-double-shoulder-pads/#findComment-5135600 Share on other sites
Doghouse
I've tried it in the past but the size of the pads can overwhelm the model itself. It's more of a shield in many respects so that as they stand side on with their left side facing the enemy with the T'au icon as they aim and shoot it offers some protection. It's a throw back to the old space marine left studded shoulder pad explanation. I think your best bet is to assemble one then dry fit the shoulder pads before gluing to see how it looks. It can work as it was used on the old XV15 Stealth suits but is very much down to personal taste. 9x19 Parabellum
Ok, I decided to go with one shoulderpad for my fire warriors and breachers. Looks pretty good after I have them all together. I guess should pads are just one of those things that you're going to have a lot of leftovers of if you decide to collect 40k models. Trevak Dal
Back in fifth edition, my first Fire Warrior Squad (first Tau models I painted) were modeled with two of the pads. They were honor guard for Aunshi (who at the time didn't have rules but I was allowed to use his old rules). They struck final (shooting) blows on a lot of space wolves, and eldar. This was before I learned about the jihadhuackbar way to use ethereals at the beginning of 6th (put them in the highest ruin, step off and take damage, repeat until they die to get preferred enemy which gave you rerolls in combat and shooting in 6th. bonus points if you play 'Arms wide open' by Creed when he dies).
