Ficinus
I think it would be really cool to center a show around a hiver gang. The stories could be more small, centered, grounded, and slowly grow to encompass more of the world and the wider Imperium. Domhnall
I'd think it'd most likely be from the perspective of the Imperial Guard, 10 episodes on the final days of a war, most likely against an Ork invasion. Throughout the series we'd have flashbacks to the main cast's background, both before serving and during past deployments, not only for fleshing out the characters themselves, but also to show how brutal the 40k universe can be. It's also give us a brief glimpse of the other factions the Imperium is fighting against, for potential future series/seasons. During the present we have various engagements with the enemy, one of which would introduce us to the Space Marines. Not as a point of view, but from the perspective of the guard seeing how deadly they are, as they move on to their own objectives. Typical TV stuff happens in the middle, and the finale is the fight with the big bad. Some characters die, the space marines are there doing their thing, but most importantly it's the guard who are there to finish it. As this would be out for general public consumption rather than a treat for the fanboys, you have to make it relatable to the casual audience, as well as keeps the fans happy. As much as I'd like to see space marines blowing holes in the enemy and power fisting an Ork warboss, TEAM SPACE MARINE! FETH YEAH! We need a good story of: Good times -> hardship -> plenty of feels -> Victory over adversity. Unfortunately, Space Marines need to be kept elevated above the hardship/feels part of the story. You can't tell the audience that Spacey McMarineFace is hard as nails, conditioned to be the perfect warrior and the best humanity has, if he's going to go cry in the corner as soon as BroMarine gets shot in the face. Slave to Darkness
Personally Id love to see something like Inquisition vs Chaos in a Hellraiser/Event Horizon style. Never gonna happen due to the level of gore, nude fleshy bits, psycological horror and other stuff not suited for the younger crowd. I guess 40k is so vast with many factions choosing who to focus on is a job in itself, then do they cover pure bolter porn marine fest apocalypse level of action or something smaller like squad/warband level. No matter what they do its gonna be good to some and complete trash to others, 40k is too diverse to please everyone. Guest MistaGav
If it's live action then I personally think a grounded war type film with guardsmen vs orks is a good candidate and based off the 15 hours story line. You need something real simple not to overwhelm the casual viewer in exposition and jargon otherwise it'd be too much. Or a Rogue Trader/Blackstone fortress type deal with a bunch of unique characters a bit like Guardians of the Galaxy type vibe, something a bit more smaller scale. I think there's good potential now for other avenues other than big blockbuster releases with the likes of Netflix and Amazon. Partner up with one of them to produce a high quality animated TV series or film exploring the universe. My dream would be seeing the Blizzard animation team working on a big W40k film as the short films they make are amazing. Kassill
Like others have mentioned, the Castlevania series on Netflix has proven that we can have an adult animated series (you know what I mean!). Personally Gaunts Ghosts would be my go to, but I also like the idea of a more abstract setting like some mentioned where we see a city, say a hive, and follow an investigative team as they track a series of gruesome murders with occult like settings to slowly reel in Inquisitorial figures and then eventually uncovering a society of chaos cultists prepping for invasion of the planet by darker forces. Have it build up to the massive scale conflict that 40k is known for. At least that's how I'd imagine it.
