Looking for some advice

I recently found in an old shoe box the remains of my old Dark Angels forces plus I have a couple primaris models. So I bought the codex and am trying to assemble a competitive list, not tournament worthy, but for pick up games.

I have the primaris capt. and librarian, plus 30 assault marines (20 with jumpacks), 3 devastator squads, and 2 dreds. Along with 3 chaplains (2 with jumpacks), 2 librarians, and about 10 deathwing Terminators.

From what I've read, DA's aren't meant for assault, so not sure what good they will do me. I would like to pick up some Hellblsaters and maybe a Repulsor.

Any advise?

hello. I don't think you should think competitive, but just to be game worthy at 1000 -1500 points which you definitely have.

You say you have 30 Assault marines, but only 20 have jump packs. That leaves 10 marines that can become your basic 5 man Tactical marines X 2. You still need 1 more squad to fulfil battalion requirements for 5 CP.

The assault marines are still viable, just don't expect them to perform dedicated assault. They are more like bullies and annoyingly fast shooters. Just read some tactica about Assault Marines.

Your devastator squads not sure which heavy weapons are there, but Dark Angels do well shooting and standing still.

Your dreadnoughts again not sure what they are armed with, but they can function as counter assault to protect your devastator firebases as well as hefting a few heavy weapons themselves. Suggest you try out Lascannons or Plasma cannons.

Your Primaris Captain and Librarian are in an odd place I'm afraid, best I can suggest is pair them with the dreadnoughts as body guards while both of them are buffed by the librarian and captain.

Anyway, I wouldn't suggest getting more Primaris, the old formula of tacticals in Rhinos are still viable. Going full Primaris is harder but can be powerful, just need more finesse.

My suggestion on purchases? Another box of tacticals, and Rhinos/Razorbacks to carry them forward.

Hellblasters are absolutely worth it, and at 60 USD for 10, one of the more cost effective ways to buff your army. You could easily get two squads of 10 and not look back.

However, to get the most out of your hellblasters, you'll want Azrael. There's a metal miniature of him only for around 25 USD. If that's not your cup of tea, you could try kitbashing with a Dark Angels veteran squad as a base model. This is a good way to get a Lieutenant too, which you will want for your army. Grim Resolve makes it so Masters are a bit less necessary.

That, dreads, devastators, and some manner of troop option (scouts for cheap, intercessors for more wounds and range--tactical marines are absolutely not worth it), should make a decent core list. For dreadnought weapons, I recommend going full shooty--twin las/missile isn't bad. If you can muster converting twin autocannons, those can also be strong, and versatile.

I'd recommend getting a Ravenwing Darkshroud as well. It, along with Azrael, Lieutenant and the Hellblasters, form the core of a strong DA list. Forcing a hit penalty on your opponents is always helpful.

Repulsor isn't really worth it. It's arguably a slightly better Land Raider...but that's not nearly good enough. Razorbacks would be better, even as strict gun platforms--though they can also carry your devastators.

I'm sorry, but this is completely wrong. Tactical marines fall over far too easily to be viable at 13 points per model, and Rhinos are only as good as what they carry. Dark Angels have no squads really worth spamming for melee--and even if you make a case for Veterans...they're limited to 5...a Razorback can transport that.

You are right, it's better to MSU tacticals in 5 man, the usual complasma-plasma squad in Razorback for a relatively cheap objective grabber and decent DPS. But I have had decent games using my full 10 man squads in Rhino, although it was of Grey Hunter variety.

And Hellblasters are good, just need to learn to keep them alive without buying hugely expensive Repulsor (moneywise and points wise).

And I still love the 12 shot Twin Assault Cannon Razorbacks.

The Twin Assault Razorbacks are nice--I'm just saying to bear in mind that they're basically gunships, not transports for us, because we have nothing worth transporting other than maybe HQs.

And again, Scouts can hold an objective with deep cover until you get some fast attack units up there. Obsec is nice, but against larger armies (anything not called Custodes or Knights...and both usually have IG CP batteries anyway), you're gonna have to wipe out the opposing unit on the objective anyway.
