TiguriusX
I'm starting a knight force to support my space wolves (ooh look a stratagem!) Has anyone seen a ruling on the cunning commander warlord free reroll? If you have a gallant warlord #1 with the ion bulwark trait you can get a 3++ with the rotate ion shield stratagem If you have an exalted court you can add warlord # 2 with another warlord trait and make him a cunning commander. The cunning commander gives you a reroll you can use in addition to the reroll stratagem. The wording for the rule says "warlord" but doesn't limit it to the warlord with the actual trait. Potentially you can reroll 2 of your failed 3++ saves on warlord #1 in a single shooting phase (similar to how custodes do it by stacking special rerolls). Anyone seen a ruling or discussion on this? Mr. Shine
First sentence in the second paragraph on the 'Warlord Traits' page (emphasis mine): "If an IMPERIAL KNIGHTS CHARACTER is your Warlord, you can generate a Warlord Trait for them from the table below." The trait is for that Warlord, so you can't apply Warlord 2's 'Cunning Commander' to Warlord 1's 'Ion Bulwark' + 'Rotate Ion Shields'. Commander Dawnstar
The Exalted Court Stratagem states very plainly that a Knight who has received a Warlord Trait though it "... is only regarded as your Warlord for the purposes of this Warlord Trait." They are not a true second Warlord and are only ever regarded as one when you come to consider which model the effects of their Warlord Trait should be applied to. As such they are effectively your (sole) Warlord when their Trait is in effect. Consider the alternative: If both a Knight granted a Warlord Trait through the Exalted Court Stratagem and your designated Warlord are considered your Warlord, and the effects of Cunning Commander can be applied to both, then surely the effects of all Imperial Knights Warlord Traits should be applied to both models. There isn't any meaningful difference in wording between Cunning Commander producing a reroll that can only be used by "your Warlord" and Ion Bulwark granting "your Warlord" a 4+ Invulnerable Save after all. TiguriusX
Thanks guys that makes sense The exalted court is the controlling rule/trait and it makes sense if that rule limits "warlord" to the specific model Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349506-imperial-knights-cunning-commander-reroll-on-a-different-wl/#findComment-5142506 Share on other sites
