Officially excited now.

Wulfen dread with Axe AND claw! Ok blizzard shield is probably the best thing any dread has ever had in 40k but how cool is axe and claw gonna look!

Wulfen dread smashing my Deathguard and Ork armies into the bin and taking over...oh wait Orks! Awesome!

Wow I am super happy and pumped with the information they released today!!

I was ready to share the revelation of the sword/board with a heavy flamer combo but someone beat me to it!

I can't wait to hear more, so far it appears GW is on the right path with our Codex!

If the Wulfen dread can advance and charge..... golly.

Wulfen dread has no shield. I guess he wields it two handed for the scythe attack. A pity, since no shield = dead dread...sigh.

nope

base wulfen dread load out is

Fenrisian great axe, WOlf claw and sotrm bolter.

the dreads holds the axe one handed still.

Replace either fenrisian great axe or storm claw and storm bolter for a blizzar sheild and a flamer.

its an incredible dread frankly

What do you guys think of the 'Close Combat champion' mentioned?  I feel like that's all of our HQs already!

its in the lore and finally on the table

"you can now add a close-combat Champion to your Great Company"

arjac is the champion of Grimnar.

we can now make our custom chapions for our greatcompanys it sounds like

I hope it allows us to make

Ulfar the first champion of russ.

cataphractii armor, chain axe, storm bolter, cyclone missle launcher

If I remember correctly these are basically a cheap Lone Wolf from the regular SM force right? With the new heroic intervention I think they would be great, cheap babysitters for a unit of Long Fangs. If anyone charges them, heroically intervene from a hidden spot since melee doesn't require LOS.

Thing about the Wulfen Dread it does indeed share abilities with Murderfang. Before the Abilities fade one can read Murderlust, so he can reroll failed charges at least.

Not to mention the 8" move. Im incredibly curious how the old venerable will stack up similarly loaded. Their 2+ to hit is less of an issue if we get +1 to hit in the first round regardless of how we get there.

Maybe they separated the loadouts and venerable are more standard now? I hope not, like i said Im loving the flexibility here.

Really happy about the Hunters Unleashed rule, it means we are going to be an effective and deadly close combat force as we should be and also will be able to hit back hard when we are assaulted, plus the characters heroically intervening means we can have decked out characters standing with our longer range units for a really effective counter punch if they get charged, I can't wait ! Giving characters hammers and fists now means they will effectively be ignoring the -1 to hit with those weapons which is going to be brutal, bring on Friday for a look at some stratagems and relics ! Feels good to be positive brothers !

Hunters unleashed can't be the chapter tactics, that's so over powered?

It is brother! Says it right in the article, it's our "faction ability".

Well, if it isn't our Chapter Tactic. Then it is our version of the Red Thirst or whatever the BA gets with the +1 to wound.

So maybe his + a chapter tactic? The +1 to wound is a blanket ability on much of the BA units as well.

OK, after the disappointing reveal of Tooth and Claw, my optimism levels are rising slowly. I know how good "Red Thirst" is for Blood Angels and it looks like "Hunters Unleashed" will be similarly effective for us. Blood Claws hitting on a 2+ can potentially be viable without any further character support IMHO.

Most of the unit descriptions are too vague to read much into but Dreadnought detachments are definitely still going to be a thing.

As for our characters, I think wargear options can best be summed up in the words of the song.

Hammer Time! :biggrin.:
