After this I have 3 tournament games to write up as well so here we go! Leviathan siege claw: Meltagun++ Total: [108 PL, 1997pts] ++ His list from memory Warlock on jet bike Farseer on jet bike 3xrangers 2 archons (1 was the CP battery and warlord) 3 ravagers 3xcabalites with blasters 3xraiders 3 void raven bombers with mortal wound ability And now for the game Bjorn was my warlord and I gave him A+1 on the charge Archon was his warlord and he cunning and writ of the muse We played ITC Mission #1 Search and destroy deployment Secondary objectives Mine -Old school -Big game hunter (all his flyers count) -Recon His -Head hunter -Recon -Behind enemy lines All assassins except 1 culexus go in reserve I put the Long Fangs in reserve as well A wolf is hiding in a building for rear objective Bjorn is placed with a clear shot for his LC I bubble wrap Bjorn with bikers due to all the flyers I placed my leviathan last to get a potential shot at his transports if I get first turn Everyone else is pushed up near the middle with the Culexus as the closest model to protect against smite His 3xrangers then show how valuable they are and take up places on the map outside of deployment He basically secured objectives before the game started and took away my ideal deep strike locations He wins the roll off to go first However I roll a 6 and SEIZE!! Dreads advance forward and pop smoke IP tucks in behind shield dread #1 Culexus advances and gets to the wall near his forces but safe out of LOS (he is north of the dread and IP) Thanks to the seize I have a clear shot at his characters and decide to drop my vindicares in my DZ in the treeline (using LF-LC as proxies) I have a clear shot at many of his characters Leviathan doesn't move so I can hit his fires easier Leviathan splits fire I fire 3 HK at a void raven and the SC at one of his ravagers (I know he can make a target harder to hit with a stratagem) He uses CP to make his ravager -2 to hit I land 11 storm cannons with the 4+ *Now that I am writing this up was I hitting on 4+ for? He isn't a flyer. I think I got rule tricked by sneaky eldar on these shots I get 9 potential wounding shots but he makes 5 saves and a FNP Ravager only takes 7 damage total I land 2 HK on the bomber but he uses a CP to reroll a save and prevent one. I roll a 2 for damage Bjorn gets 2 LC on the void bomber and I roll snake eyes for damage I decide to use a CP and roll another 1...damn Finally I use the vindicares who usually hit on 2's but need 3 because they moved onto the board this turn I take aim at his warlock so I can't be jinxed If I can kill him (should be easy target) I get a big advantage to break his psyker combos I roll 2 and 2 I regret burning a CP earlier and as part of my learning curve with the vindicare I realize I need to save CP for them if it is a critical shot No kills round 1...that hurts for old school (this influences me to get more ranged turn 1 in later lists) His warlock and farseer move out of range from my culexus but still in range to drop jinx and doom on my leviathan I also eat a smite on a shield dread Blasters from an archon put 2 more D on the shield dread The bombers come in and just bomb away with mortal wounds (never faced them before....was crazy) 4 mortal wounds on my bikers 2 mortal wounds on my leviathan Then the ravens fire their guns Raven #1 6D on my leviathan Raven #2 1D on CW #1 Raven #3 3D on leviathan (3W left) Raider #1 puts 2D on Leviathan (1W left) Raider #2 disintegrates the leviathan off the board Ravager #1 pounds my shield dread down to 1W remaining Rangers sniper fire and get a 6 to finish off the dread Ravager #2 now has clear shot at my IP and reduces him to 2W He gets kill more...hold more...bonus It is 1:5 after turn 1 for primary score I am getting absolutely pounded T2 I push a shield dread in range to charge his raider The IP and culexus go after other vehicles My remaining assassins all drop in around his rear and my LF take a great firing position The eversor needs to clear his rangers at the bottom of the screen Bjorn has no photo but he started moving to the middle of the map but still in range to flame a raven Between his flamer and LCs Bjorn puts 6D on a raven (3 left) Remaining bikes get 1 more through after FNPs prevent 2 (would have killed it but for those FNP) My LFs and callidus/culexus assassins kill off his rangers in the crater My eversor fires his pistol at the nearby rangers and kills 1. This was a HUUUUGE mistake. There was a single model at ground level (easy 9" charge on 3D6). This kill let him remove that model. Made the closest model 3" further because of climbing up to level 2. I failed the charge roll and was left out to dry. I then fire my snipers at his warlock again. They manage to pop him this time around My shield dread makes the charge into raider #1 and puts 14W on it then consolidates into raider #2 On his turn 2/3 of the void ravens turn and fly towards the shield dread His other void raven drives by to blast the eversor off the map while his main formation turns around to fire on the assassin force that showed up His farseer casts smite and execute to kill my IP He also shoots 2/3 cyberwolves to death this round *At this point my note taking gets non-existant basically but I have a few pictures Bjorn continues moving towards the middle of the map (he is getting into charge range of the cabalites as well) Vindicares hold position in their sniper nest and pick off his archon Shot 1 does 2 damage and shot 2 rolls a 6 to wound and a 6 on the damage roll. Suck it flicker shield! Bjorn takes damage in OW but tears through most of the cabalites. Unfortunately the blasters remain Shield dread puts 7 on the raider (not enough to kill the damn thing) On his turn the cabalites fall back away from Bjorn and his raider takes off away from the shield dread His farseer heads directly for the vindicares so he isn't picked off (if you look carefully you see his jetbike bottom middle near the trees) He uses smite and execute to kill a vindicare Farseer then charges the remaining vindicare but I make all the 4++ My turn Bjorn walks after the cabalites but keeps a shot for his LC open Shield dread gets in auto charge range of the raider My shooting phase I fire the vindicare pistol and fail the wound roll with a 1...so much vindicare fail this game to balance out the archon success Bjorn makes the charge to kill last 2 cabalites Shield dread makes his charge and kills off the raider We ran out of time on TURN 4 I was personally surprised at the score at game end I had 20 he had 24 The failure to kill something on turn 1 was a 2 point swing alone (first blood and kill 1) I felt like I was being pounded non stop during the game so it was surprising to see it this close.
