Panzer Posted August 17, 2018 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Yeah SW are much more vulnerable to alpha strikes since we can put our heavy hitters into reserves and depending on the terrain we are more mobile due the FLY keyword and TWC not being able to climb ruins. I played an brigarde with mephiston, smash captain and one solocaptain. 3 x scouts 2x hb 3 x intercessors, 10 DC, 6 Sanguard and one acient with fnp banner, 2 inceptorsquads with bolters, 1 tarantulla with assaultcannon 1 dev squad and 2 thudgunns. My opponent had an am cp farming detachment one batallion and one spearhead detachment. By memory he had one jp wolflord with th ss, one libarian, björn, thunderwolves x 6 all th ss, unit of wolfes one cyberwolf, one unit of intercessors and two units of the cc boltgun troops, one longfangsquad with 4 rockets and that flying brick. "Well we had our battle today and i made alot of mistakes like charge the choppy with my dc in the first turn only to get nominated to charge last from the librarian with an relic. Björn losed 2 Wounds then the dc got eaten.. The flyer lost 6 wounds to lascannons. and i killed some wulves and some thunderwolves with the inceptors from my deploymentzone. In return he killed a quadgun and my captain which killed björn. in my turn i shot the flyer and 3 wulfen. i made the mistake and chargeed the wolfen and thunderwolfes and sacrificed tree troop units and my sanguard to them. mephiston was killed as he got heroic intervented by his wolflord with 6 TH attacks. I managed to decimate his thunderwolves to two and vaporized the wolflord with laser and also killed the wulfen but at the end he had to much gamble and malstrompoints 14:20 so i called at the end of turn 5. Conclusion would i have smashed the soft targets with dc and stayed out of combat with the hard stuff i would have made the race as all his troops made the points. 2x Quadgun was golden and the inceptors shined realy good. Scouts did a lot of wounds with the bolter stratagem." So that stratagems of the wolves came quiet handy. Longfangs get incredible strong with the reroll to wound strat, the -1 to hit strat from the psyker is also great especialy if you have an flyer in that aura. The 6" HI on characters was my fate as i fall for it and landed in many dangerous situations. with many charakters they can screen alot of units to intervent if someone charges. I lost mephiston this way to his wolflord.The relic armor is super strong as every unit hit the libarian hits last and was eaten alive (forgott about the armor twice!) Making an intercessor an charakter was also a good move as he was a pain in the ass to remove him with 4 wounds. So how to beat them? Only charge the softer units away from his charakters and concentrate all your mass fire from your army on everything what wears an stormshield. After switching my strategy i was able to delete his wulven and reduced his thunderwolves to two models. but it was to late this time. I should have send my elite units into combat with the guardsmen and the troops and longfangs rather to feed them to the wulven and thunderwolves. bring alot of smite if you can. maybe 2 libbys to get of that stratagem with the 2+ to psytest on the last smiter? Stay away from that strong charakters the lord can dish out 6 th attacks if he want. Hope that helped a litte. Wish you less errors as i made against them.
