"We were there when the bombs fell, when the drop ships filled the sky, when those bastard traitors let go of their last breath, their bodies torn apart by our fury.

We laughed in the face of the Thrice-Cursed Warmaster and his mongrels, made him pay in tainted blood and corrupted flesh for the treachery he revealed to the galaxy that day.

We fought against all odds and survived the first day, and the one after, and another, and yet more until we were but ash and dust swept away by the sterile winds of a dead planet.

We were those few who refused to die until Oblivion pulled us into Her embrace and we were no more."

All in, and all awesome.  Leeeeets see, I think I'd agree with hushrong about at least a concentrated but minimal amount of brown wash would likely help really make some of the joints 'pop'.

While GW washes are great, I seem to recall using both oils and P3 inks to really good effect on Death Guard in the past.  They're just really thin and high contrast so they stick to the crevices really well. I think the yellowed sepia works fine near the rolled plate tops and rivets but it might need a touch more contrast around the elbow couter plate, the knee poleyn plate, and maybe around the major seperations of the power pack.

Tone wise I think it's good, whatcha thinking up for a basing scheme?  That can always matter depending on if you're planning more weathering powders or the like :)

Thank you for the feedback, folks. Much appreciated. :tu:

True to my Hobby Butterfly Syndrome, I've been thinking of another facet of this project which involves a group of loyalist Sons of Horus. The betrayal of both their gene-father and brothers has had a profound and traumatic effect on them, and I would like for them to decide on a new name for their warband (them, quite understandably, not wanting to be called Sons of Horus any more). I've been spitballing some ideas but would appreciate some community input on these. So far I have the following list:

Ashen Sons

Cindered Sons

Cloven Sons

Shattered Sons

Splintered Sons

Sons of Ash

Sons of Oblivion

Sons of Shards

Brotherhood of Ash

Brotherhood of Oblivion

Brotherhood of Shards

Company of Ash

Company of Oblivion

Company of Shards

Ashen Spear(s)

Ashen Blade(s)

Ashen Claw(s)

Ashen Maw(s)

Ashen Wolves

Shattered Spear(s)

Shattered Blade(s)

Shattered Claw(s)

Shattered Maw(s)

Shattered Wolves

This list is by no means exhaustive and I encourage people to pitch their suggestions should they consider the above name ideas inadequate. :)

Thank you for looking. :tu:

The Death Guard test mini looks great, though I agree with Vykes that some brown wash in the recesses would really make it pop. As for the Sons of Horus naming, the Ashen Wolves is reminiscent of Wolf of Ash and Fire. Perhaps you could shorten it to Ash Wolves?

Heh, naturally I'm gonna be predisposed to liking the 'Ash Wolves' :P  My mongrel Ash Jackals are happy to see some other wasteland 'treats' poking their heads from their dens!

I'd strike out the Ashen Claws (already the Raven Guard), but you could give them both their loyalist and original legion style to differentiate them from the traitor main force, what with the Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves traitor-loyalist split. You could go right back to Dusk Raiders 'allied' group, combining the cognomen of both the XVI and XIV legions: the Dusk Wolves.

Other ones I like are Sundered Sons, Dusk Fangs, do like Sons of Oblivion too.
