Tyriks
Anyone know of any decent 3rd party cultist models? I don't mind the GW kit but if I'm going to have 40 or more I want a lot more variety. I'm just looking for gun-toting ones that won't look monotonous with a ton of them on the board. Thanks! carnosaur93
not exactly 3rd party, but the moment i saw the new cawdor necromunda kit i thought "better cultists!" :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349754-cultist-models/#findComment-5150157 Share on other sites
Panzer
Genestealer neophytes with different heads and some chaos bitz work well too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349754-cultist-models/#findComment-5150169 Share on other sites

Thanks!*cracks knuckles* Check out madrobot. They have a lot of guardman/cultist models. https://madrobotminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9_19 specifically these: https://madrobotminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_19&products_id=275 And these: https://madrobotminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=32_39&products_id=209 For some more mercenary/organized looking cultists, you've got these from prodos: https://shop.prodosgames.com/capitol/18-free-marines.html And these: https://shop.prodosgames.com/imperial/177-imperial-life-dragoons.html Also these: https://shop.prodosgames.com/capitol/254-martian-banshees-linebreakers.html For some infected/zombie cultists: https://shop.prodosgames.com/dark-legion/25-undead-legionnaires.html Finally, there are these from Victoria miniatures: https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/penal-guard And lastly, these: https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/broolian-beastmen Of course, you could always use some of the necromunda models. Trevak Dal
not exactly 3rd party, but the moment i saw the new cawdor necromunda kit i thought "better cultists!" :P Out of curiosity I looked-i hadn't looked at any of the necomunda stuff because-they aren't mainline 40k and I don't care. But you are quite correct and holy :cuss-GW is actually capable of making high-tech looking humans. I'd do a guard army of those vansar guys. I hadn't looked at prices but I feel that my zeal would wane. Like how much I love lizardmen (seraphon-an even more awesome name-again rare for GW) but have zero desire to play age of Sigmar. Orlocks make good cultists too, especially for more technical or disciplined factions like Iron Warriors or Alpha Legion. MaliGn
Get a box each of cawdor, orlocks, flagellants (assuming you can still but them) g-cult neophytes, and chaos marauders (again assuming still available) mix and match to your heart's content. Doom Herald
Necromunda in general has good stuff for cultists, maybe with minor conversions on some but many are great just as they come. Scammel
The kill team I'll be taking to WW next month is mostly GSC Neophytes with Kairic Acolyte heads, with a smattering of Guard and Scion bodies thrown in for good measure. I'm dead chuffed with them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349754-cultist-models/#findComment-5150432 Share on other sites

The flagellant kit is pretty old and small compared to the newer models. masterstrider
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-WW/neophite-hybrids-2016 These guys are an awesome kit and perfect for cultists with autoguns. I've got 40 and the kit is multi-part so you can make them all interesting. I also have 60 of the regular cultists and I prefer the hybrids. Pearson73
Anvil Industry used to have some pretty cool cultist/traitors in their Miniatures of the North range, it's under the 'Boutique' section now. Kite Senet
Personally, I don't think the 5-man easy-build kit gets too monotonous if one varies the painting scheme one's using substantially from model to model. That said, I've been trawling historical miniatures sites for models that could be converted into a Prospero Spireguard. My best finds so far are here: (1) (2) (3), which match at least in that they depict the shakos that the Spireguard are depicted with in A Thousand Sons...but they aren't a great fit for the 40k setting, even if I'm able to figure out how to convert and/or paint up those muskets(?) as lasguns or stubbers or somesuch. I don't think it would necessarily be beyond my army to throw human chaff out to die with 38 millennia old equipment, per se, but it might be bad for the cult's morale if they really have to stop after every shot to reload their pea-shooters while they're fighting giants with rocket launcher machine guns. Drawing from historicals probably won't do much good for other army's cultists, though; unless you're trying to make an army seem fancy and overdressed for war (i.e. Thousand Sons cultists) or downtrodden and devastated (maybe one could pull that off?), not much of historical warfare is going to line up with the cult concept. GreaterChickenofTzeentch
As those photos above show, the best parts of Kairic Acolytes (and Bloodreavers, BTW) for 40k are the heads. I've been doing similar stuff for my Black Legion cultists and they look pretty good. With regard to Historical, I've heard it said that the main difference between normal 28mm (i.e. historic) and Heroic 28mm (40k) is that the proportions are off in order for certain parts to draw the eye. These are primarily the heads and arms. Historical models don't look so great when they're fully assembled and standing next to Heroic minis, but if you add some Heroic arms and heads and pull a few tricks with basing or posing, you can mix the two. True enough, but if there is one unit in this game that can look weak and small, it is cultists. I think the regimented and dated aesthetic may be a greater barrier for historic minis. El_Dicko
I’m currently kitbashing a bunch of the aos starter blood reavers with pox walkers, and using tzaangor and Escher guns, mostly. Works well for a daemonworld mutant rabble. Just picked up a box each of genestealer neophytes and cawdor to make some more traditional guys probably most will get hooded admech heads(found those dirt cheap from bitsellers).
