Frater Cornelius Posted August 23, 2018 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Let's take a typical skeleton of a AC + AM list. 2 Jetbikes Captains 3 Custodian Guards 6 Jetbikes 2 Company Commanders 3 Infantry Squads 2 Mortar Teams 1262pts That is a Guard battalion and a Custodes patrol detachment. Adding two more Custodian Guard units would make the AC detachment a battalion as well. That is 312 extra points. By comparison, you can pay 322 points for 3 Scion units (2 units with 2 Plasmas, 1 unit with 2 Meltas, all with Plasma Pistols), a Tempestor Prime and a Lord Commissar. That is a Battalion as well. Now, my first impression is that the MT detachment will outperform six Custodian Guard models. However, people seem to do well with AC battalions on GTs without MT support, just with an AM CP and Mortar farm. So here's the question. What do the Custodian Guard bring and why would I take them over an entire MT battalion? There are better ways to structure your army than taking a detatchment that grants you no benefit.
