Marshal Vespasian
Greetings brethren, I'm looking for good techniques to do writing on banners and the little scrolls that are attached to chest pieces and pauldrons. On purity seals or books I just do squiggly lines. But on chestpieces and pauldrons I would like to write down namens and on banners maybe eben shorter phrases. If someone could point me to a tutorial or some tricks I'd be thankful. Thank you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349864-lettering-on-bannersscrolls/ Share on other sites
Razblood
A 0.2 micron pen, with waterproof permanent ink is your best bet. Also start any script you write from the centre, as this will help in making sure the word/s fit. Marshal Vespasian
Okay cool, thank you. I guess I'll have to train writing all their names and stuff in sarifs before anyways. WarriorFish
As Raz says "cheating" with a pen is best, but it's not too hard with a small brush and reducing words to single strokes at a time. Obviously this gets harder the smaller the scroll and you need patience A steady hand is the best help (which I don't have), but can be somewhat replaced with more patience Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349864-lettering-on-bannersscrolls/#findComment-5153625 Share on other sites
NiceGuyAdi
I tossed my micron pen in my paint pot and refused to use it again after smearing all my painstakingly added script all over the place when I tried to wash it afterwards. Reading Razblood's post makes me want to get it out again but varnish afterwards, this time. Another way, more forgiving but much more time consuming, is to make up and print decals to size. I did that on the shin banner on my Chaplain. Marshal Vespasian
Thanks for the tips. What was your process for the decal? Did you neasure out the sie of the scroll? Did it fit exactly on the scroll? Did you put varnish over it after applying? It does look great. I think I'll try the pen too. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349864-lettering-on-bannersscrolls/#findComment-5154547 Share on other sites
NiceGuyAdi
I measured the scroll up, then made a few options on the decal sheet: two at the size I'd measured, two slightly smaller, two slightly larger. That way I had a bit of wriggle room for measurements, and a spare in case I cocked it up on application. For the sake of not wasting time and a decal sheet, I did a dummy run on a normal sheet of paper to make sure it looked right when I cut that out. Always seal a decal with varnish (gloss first, then matte if your want it matte), or it'll go walkies at the first sign of moisture! Marshal Vespasian
yeah decals have caused me some grief with falling off, when touching up some parts of the minitature in question in the past. So thank you for the info. I will have to have a look at how good or bad I can do it with a pen, if that doesnt work decals it will be.
