Magos Takatus
Hey all. I was airbrushing my Imperial Knight yesterday and once I finished for the day I took the airbrush apart and cleaned it. I soaked the parts in airbrush cleaner and then ran them through an ultrasonic cleaner. When it came to reassembling the airbrush I found the needle would no longer fit inside the nozzle. I left it to soak in airbrush cleaner overnight but by morning I still cannot see through the nozzle. Does anyone experienced in airbrush usage know any tips beyond what I'm doing to clear whatever has got stuck in the nozzle? I'm hesitant to apply force in case I damage any of the components. Thank you for your time. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349877-unblocking-an-airbrush-nozzle/ Share on other sites
Rik Lightstar
You can try using a pin of a similar size to your airbrush needle. You need to break down the blockage first. Time and patience are your real tools unfortunately. Magos Takatus
Thanks for the reply. I did finally manage to unblock the nozzle clearing some unidentified black stuff out of it. I've spent the day playing around with colourshift paints as a result. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349877-unblocking-an-airbrush-nozzle/#findComment-5154149 Share on other sites
Imren
If your blockage is dried paint, then let the tip (with no seals) soak in acetone. Its harmless against the metal, but it dissolves dried paint like a boss. Just a tip for the future Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349877-unblocking-an-airbrush-nozzle/#findComment-5155222 Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
That sounds like useful advice. I think we have nail varnish remover in the cupboard somewhere. Would that be appropriate? Imren
Some nail varnish remover uses other type of thinners than acetone, you need to check the table of contents on the label. The ones that's just acetone (also used as nail varnish remover) works good and its acetone I have experience of. Make sure its soaks for 10-15 min so that the acetone gets the chance to work through the blockage. Kilofix
Also if you’re in the middle of painting. Cover the nozzle, hit air, allow backflow into the cup to unblock. Ovidius Incertus
Just to pile on the tips: I use rubbing alcohol. Soak the tip in some alcohol then give it a poke or two with a needle. Plenty of ways to skin a cat. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/349877-unblocking-an-airbrush-nozzle/#findComment-5158081 Share on other sites
