Arjac and Njal cataphractii conversions

Presumably you'll just use his raven from the original sculpt?

Loving it so far. I'm jealous!

Thanks bud. Thought about it but I'll leave his raven on his shoulder (still have to shave and transfer his wolf pelt) and I'd like the murder to slowly transform from flames to crows progressively.

The birdies from Celestine what have been ideal? Maybe?

Thanks for the ideas, will see what I can find from bits sellers :)

Can you help me with the last point of Njal conversion? I wanted to add his pelt on top of the armour but I feel the wolf head takes away from the composition since the face is such a focal point without it.

Of course it is a rough blu tack fix but it illustrates the issue with the wolf head going over Njal head.

I see three options:

1. Cut off the head and leave just the pelt

2. Move the pelt backwards

3. No pelt at all

That wolf on top does not look nice...

Have you tried the wolf pelt from the normal terminator box yet?  I have no idea if it is compatible with what you are doing but it was designed to go OVER existing TDA parts and may be a better fit

*here is the model I'm talking about (you can rotate that link 360 degrees)

It may not be ideal since the cloak might be needed as well...but you can do the partial wolf pelt alone if you feel creative

Also I just do this personally but spoiler tags help people view without mandatory loading of images

I’d say without. I have a lone wolf I made that I loved but did a big pelt over and it looked awesome but once I painted it it totally fell apart for the same reasons you’re concerned.

What if you just did something over the shoulders without the head? Another idea is chopping a fenrisian Wolf, it works pretty well and has better detail than his finecast one too. Might be a bit lower profile too.

Thank you all for the feedback guys, the terminator solution really inspired me but didn't quite work but then I saw Horus Lupercal and thought I'd try a mini version of his wolf pelt and I'm really glad how it can potentially look.

I'll go back to the workshop to finish it off and then show y'all the concept!

Thanks mate. Also found the perfect birds for the effect, ravens to represent Huginn and Muninn being summoned to scry the battlefield representing the choser of the slain stratagem.

Might use the spares for objective markers or other conversions.

So found the solution and I really like it. But this post is not about that. I'll show it when all green stuff is done for effect purposes.

Now today I completely took a break from Njal and Arjac to... create something I've wanted to do for a long time. True scale heresy era space wolves. I've attempted many times but I was never happy with the result. I think now I got it. Problem is now I might have to do 14 guys more like this:

They scale great with the Varagyr but geez they're involved.

Thank you so much guys! Much appreciated.

Finished another one and modified claw leader loadout since it was a rush job to see how he looked yesterday.

The torsos are pretty simple it's the legs where you have to be a surgeon with a scalpel to eliminate all the corruption.

Tomorrow I might try to see how the torsos look with some mkii or mkiii looking legs from terminators since I might not have the drive to make 15 like this. If it doesn't look good I'll settle for one long fang squad.

Will you green stuff some decorations to replace the Death Guard symbols you removed, or paint the kneepads the silver of bare metal, so you can pass off the "surgery" as the results of battle damage and regular wear-and-tear?

Was thinking of using the metal trick.

So to hell with waiting until tomorrow. Just tested the Varagyr legs:

I really like him but the only issue I can see is the legs and scale is so similar to the Varagyr that might make them look like they have less gravitas.

What do you think guys? I could make 15 of these much easier than pure mkiii. Maybe some other terminator legs like the grave wardens might work better since they are smaller than the Varagyr.

Oh and here's the final concept for Njal, only some minor green stuff needed and the spell effect:

I have to go against the grain and say that I am not a massive fan of the varagyr legs.

For one, looking at the forward leaning pose of the varagyr, the more upright marine appears as tall if not taller and just as bulked out, plus doing all legs with varagyr will remove a lot of the individuality from your elite army.

If you go down the terminator leg route, maybe the plastic cataphractii or tartaros legs would be better

The DG legs look great and although needing work will be more cost effective and look the part more than varagyr legs.... and the plastics will be a fair bit cheaper than ashen circle legs too :D
