Arjac and Njal cataphractii conversions

All other terminator legs are too thick on the shin. I´ve ordered 5 grave wardens legs to try but what do you think about this modified pattern of Varagyr legs?

In height it definitely separates him from the Terminators much better and likens him to my commander (left in comparison pic), and now his waistline is at a much better height. Another thing I do like is the fact that the visual language marries very well with the rest of the pieces (diamond spikes in torso and in shins, banded layers on shoulder and in shins).

Key questions being:

  • With the removal of the extra layer of plate the Varagyr have in the thigh, does it differentiate enough from the elite terminators?
  • Is the shin too thick?
Key for me is finding a method that works and is not as involved as scraping the death guard legs since that´s really a chore and there are only like 5 different legs between both and right that are salvageable so in the long run my poses will be very limited.

Thanks man. Need some help guys. Already finished cleaning and repairing 5 pairs of legs but riveting is a nightmare since they're so small in the plague marine kit.

What do you think of this result? They need to be cleaned now in the surroundings of each rivet but you get the idea:

Trying to make them all the same size and simetric over a curved irregular surface is driving me crazy to the point where I'm considering just shaving all rivets off and leave the mkiii clean of them.

What do you think? Shall I try a different method? Leave as it is? Just make smooth armour?

If you have a steady hand, you might want to get a hand dremel for scraping the DG legs.  They aren't terribly expensive, and usually come with a few extra attachments.  I would recommend one with a cord rather than battery operated.  I ended up getting one because scraping Aquilas off of power armor and vehicles is way too time consuming with knife and files.

How are you placing the rivets?

Thanks man, yes I tried zinge but their smallest rivets are 3 times bigger than these. These are .35mm.

As for the placement I first did the central and external ones since the armour lines provided guide for it and then the next day after the 4th and 5th in the middle trying to be as precise as possible (OCD flaring).

They're all sculpted of green stuff since I wasn't sure I'd be able to be precise enough with the glue if using beads, plus I couldn't find any beads smaller than 0.5mm.

I also just checked the BOP MKIII armour and not even these are equidistantly placed!!

Glass beads are okay for larger rivets, or used as admantium bonding studs...but they are a pain to glue properly.  Number of times I glued them to the tweezers, even with applying to glue to the armor and not the beads...they also have a habit of coming loose.

If you aren't already doing so, drill a guide hole using a .35mm bit.  Then shave down some piece of sprue to a near point (or plastic rod), and drill a shallow hole in that.  Make small beads of green stuff, and sandwich them between your guide hole and the hole in the sprue (lube it up with some vaseline or water so it doesn't stick too badly), let it cure and then clean the edges.  I can't remember what blog I read that demonstrated how to make specialized sculpting "tools" out of used sprue from model kits, but it's been pretty useful when needing to make specific shapes.  It was something I saw when reading through modeling blogs.

Took a while to find the original article;

http://museonminis.com/hobby-101-essential-hobby-tools/

It's under No. 8 "Ghetto Tools"  He uses things like ink cartridges for bic pens to do rivets and loaded missiles.  The sprue or plastic rod might be easier, because you can shape it, or just drill it, and it's ready to go.

So I took a small break after all the stress of the rivets. They're now with a crack sculptor in Sweden to finish riveting and then I'll cast molds when they're back.

On the meantime I'm 99% done with Arjac who with some magnetisation doubles up as Hvarl Red blade in 30k!

Only waiting for some belt feed bullets to put into the heavy bolter mag well.

And Njal is almost finished, only the spell effect sculpt into ravens and the base remaining.

He's full of details but I think it works for the chief rune priest of the 6th plus I want him to rival Russ himself in level of elaborate.

Absolutely love this....

Sorry to hear the Deathshroud didnt work out.

I have not tried mine yet, so will have to see how they stack up May have to make the torso sit higher for extra length or something.

I wonder how Justaerin and red butchers scale to the varagyr?

Guys... I´m thinking about going balls out on the idea of Ashes of Prospero and make a mega diorama with Arjac, Njal and Bjorn:

Would buy the duel base from FW and adapt it so they all fit together seamlessly!

Also, what do you think in the reposing of Nightwing (Njal's cyber raven)? I think it gives more balance to the mini and it looks like he's staring in awe at the powers of his master!! Also, remember there will be spirit ravens summoned from the spell rather than the demon head as soon as I get my hands on them!

i love your Njal and Arjac conversions!

The true scalers are excellent but I feel in the context of an army, I'm not feeling them. They make the terminators less impressive - you lose the reference of scale, so when everything is big, nothing is big.
