After a bit of research here are the basics.

Chapter Planet: Ataegin, a forested and intersected by deep valleys planet with a few archipelagos.

 

Recruitment: Fierce, lawless tribes inhabit the forests of Ataegin, enjoying freedom from the rigours of Imperial citizenship.

 

There is no law but survival. Some tribes are fiercy territorial, their leaders possessing all the pretensions of barbarian kings.

 

The chapter recruits from these warring tribes, hardened fighters and born survivors in their millions; a race of warriors with no illusions about the horrors of the universe.

Veterans sport a braid as a symbol of status.

The braid denotes the warrior prowess.

 

Doctrine: flexible fighting force, able to adapt to almost any combat situation, with a preference for vicious, shocking offense.

Like the Dothraki? Do they have to cut off their braids when they're defeated in a challenge, meaning the length of their braid shows the length of time since their last defeat?

 

In that case, each warrior should bear a custom token, which would be given to the one who defeated him in a challenge. A victorious warrior would wear in his hair tokens taken from defeated enemies, so others would know how many challenges he won. This way, no warrior could simply avoid answering challenges, while claiming prowess based on the length of his uncut braid.
