Change of Warlord Traits

GW claimed that they had changed SW Warlord Traits for our good but they lied.

The original rule is like this:

IMG 3313

The new rule:

2018 09 01 11 51 46

To pass the morale test automatically is essential for our faction. SW is a pure slow melee faction. Thunderwolf is only M10, wolfen dreadnought is M8 and wolfen is M7. How many turns do we need to engage in close combat? We need cover before melee. We also need passing morale test to ensure our cover won't be frightened by several boltergun bullets. Fenris wolves could be a good choice for cover. Now, it's a useless junk with LD4. Oh, it has been increased to 8pts once more.

Deed of Legend is a joke. Sorry to say that. We need charge after advance and automatic morale test before charging but we can't achieve deeds until we make successful charge. How ironic? It is like the 22th Military Discipline. "You must prove yourself crazy so that you can quit but proving yourself crazy means you are not crazy so that you can't quit". Warrior born and majesty have the most unreasonable requirements. One is killing character and the other is killing warlord. God! We need at least two turns to reach opponents' scout line. Do you really think your opponents are so stupid that they will send their character to your warlord? When can we achieve the requirement, Turn 4 or Turn 5? Generally, I needn't worry that because my Warlord has already died.

I used to blame Simon for the ridiculous book. It's copy/paste and inconsistency everywhere. Useful units were weakened and useless junks were not changed at all. Now, I know Simon had design for our faction. His plan was changed by some reason. If we discuss how to use SW units in this book, the question always becomes why we don't replace them with BA/DA/AM/IK/MEK. They are much cheaper and more useful. Only one SW unit can't be replaced. Njal is the most powerful psycher in imperial factions. Finally, we are walking the path of Thousand Sons through this book.

Bluescope,

I know you are letting out some frustration at the codex and having a rant, but really you should have proof read your post.

It is confused, disjointed,  and incomprehensible in places; Quite frankly it's painful to read.

(posted: 4:40am)  ...had you just returned from the pub at the time?

I really like our codex.

So do I. And I actually like the change mentioned in the post. Saga of the Wolfking now affects things like WG or BC or other cool units and does not pigeon hole it into being for Wolfy" armies. and personally only the Fenrisian Wolves I think are really affected by the lose of morale (Wulfen are pretty resileint and focused, have smaller units and at least I usually have a WP with them, so Ld 9 means that if I have to take morale something really bad happened to them), and TWC at Ld 8 and small unit sizes mean I don't thik I have ever had to worry about morale for them. I see why some people are negative abot the new COdex, but in general I feel it is a good book (now I just need GW to solve my issue).

He has some valid points. The saga of wulfkin is immensely better in the pre errata form. None of the errata WL traits are even remotely as good as that one.

That is argueable. Pre errata Wolfkin affected 5 units in the codex (WL on TW, WGBL on TW, TWC, FW and Wulfen), while the current, while having to have to complete the deed (which isn't that hard with Hunter's Unleashed), has awider bonus. The morale also only affected three units, one which I think usually doesn't care that much about morale, another which with other support I think rarelly needs to and therefore the benefit is limited to 1. I could see the argument for Saga of Majesty wich was wider spread and the current option having the hardest Deed, but Wolfkin I actually like it a lot.

I actually like it more now too. I only like wulfen from our wolf units so the idea of suddenly being able to field a 10 man WG squad with +1 attack from this Saga, +1 from Arjac, +1 from the Wulfen stone and +1 from first turn regardless of who charges sounds pretty sweet.

That's 70 attacks from that unit not counting characters.

Or you can go nuts and go long fang heavy with WG cyclone terminators with Bjorn and lascannon for fire support, heroic intervention defence and Re-roll hits in case you want to overcharge plasma. And ah they can move and shoot at a flyer with no penalty due to keen senses for only 1cp.

Or you can go nuts with the wulfen, outflanking or bringing them in a Stormwolf with saga of the wolf-kin and the armour of Russ to make anyone you want fight last.

Or you can go teleport nuts and deep strike 20WG with Combi plasma and 3++ storm shield, Arjac and WP in TDA and armour of Russ and blast off someone with 40 plasma shots rerolling hits and wounds and if someone charges you back has to go through your overwatch and Arjac and the priest will intervene and their main unit will fight last.

Plus all I can't think about.

Fact is this codex has given us a lot of viable choices and that is only good.

Is morale really that important for Fenrisian Wolves? Sure they crumple when they get shot at, but if they get shot at at all, they've done their job. And LD9 wolves will still die from anything looking hard at them. Either Fen Wolves are cheap enough to be a suicide screen or they aren't, but that's a discussion that has little to do with their leadership. I think the new version of that WLT is better, and certainly all the other ones are *much* better and more interesting in the new form.
