Deadass
During the HH, it's always been pretty clear which great company bore which number (e.g. Onn led by Gunnar Gunnhilt, Tra led by Helmschrot, etc.), but I can't find anything on the numeration of the modern great companies. Am I just looking at the wrong places, or is there really nothing written about that part of SW organisation? I'm just curious. M.Redbeard
Changed in the 10k years between them, as far as I remember. No Great Company numbers are currenly used except Dekk-Tra, for a lot of players, the 13th Gret Company since it is a remanent of the HH. Deadass
Hrmm... that's kinda unfortunate. I know next to nothing about norse culture or languages, but I always enjoy these little bits of flavor when it comes to the heresy-era Wolves - calling the Wolf Guard 'Varagyr' or naming their Dreadnoughts the 'Sons of Ymir'... Thanks for the info, though! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350025-great-company-numeration/#findComment-5158838 Share on other sites

Deadass
Very true. I've had ideas for a Space Wolves army swirling around for a while now, and with the new codex, the time may have come to unleash the Rout... M.Redbeard
I also know very little of Norse culture. But I add a bit of the flavour I can to my Wolves. For example my Grey Hunter squads when they have a Combi plasma I call them Sólúlfur, my Sun Wolf squads. And so on. The units I use and enjoy I went to Google translate amd tried a few things to see what sounded cool. Then checked mythology and other norse stuff for Characters names, so I have my RP Snorri Surtur, "Stormarked", and other stuff. The Premium version of BS lets you add those details and can be really nice. You can add teh details and keep the once you want. Call teh WGTDA VAragyr, have your Sons of Ymir. You can add the heralds of Surtur, or the Axes of Morkai. What you create and do the fluffy names you enjoy. Vash113
As others have said the use of numbers ceased following the Horus Heresy. However if the Grand Annulus counts out the Great Companies in a clockwise manner then with the 13th taking the last position then the Redmaws would be Onn, the Sons of Morkai would be Tra, the Champions of Fenris Fyf and so on and so forth.
