Azekai
Played my first kill team game today! Only a ~50 pt firefight, as we were still learning the rules. We also did not bother to pick up specializations, which in retrospect was a bit of a bummer, since that seems to be where a lot of the texture of the game lies. Oh well. No sense in weeping over spilled ichor. My motley crew:Fletcher, Lead Acolyte w/ autogunBonecrasher, Aberrant w/ power hammerFinger-Snatcher, Acolyte w/ heavy stubberThe Skittering Rabble, 3x Acolytes w/ autogunsMy opponent broke out his old Necrons for a kill team test-drive. As per the Ambush scenario, my counterpart got points enough for an extra warrior. The mission called for the Necrons to leave via the southern table edge.Deathmark Leader w/ synapse disintegrator2 Immortals w/ gauss blasters1 WarriorSetup was on a very small 2x2 board, befitting our tiny squads. The mission was Ambush. The xeno-machines had to escape out of either of the two doorways, and my backalley freaks had to stop them. I thought a few well placed dumpster bombs might allow me to get lucky and blow up one of the Necrons with a mortal wound, so I picked Booby Traps; my idea was to line the sides of the avenue with a couple explosives to punish my opponent if he did anything unexpected. I rolled a 1 on the d3 and placed my hidden counter cunningly. Spoilers: No one ever entered that ruin for the entirety of the game.My opponent chose to pick off my sentries. Far more sensible. The center of the map was a vaguely 'y' shaped street overlooked by high-rise ruins. Two clear gates marked where the Necrons could exit, so it was necessary to split my forces to guard each one. Bonecrasher and two rabble hunkered in near the Southeast road, with Fletcher, Finger-Snatcher and another rabble huddling near the Southwest gate. The game began with the Deathmark drawing a bead on Bonecrasher; the opening salvo nearly blew a hole in the beast. Fortuitously, the hulking mutant didn't have too many synapses to disintegrate, and the sniper's shot only made the aberrant mad. Bonecrasher roared forward, getting off a very long 11" charge on the first Necron it saw, one of the immortals. The brute exploded through the window, knocking the heavy Necron flat and smashing its skull-like head even as its gauss weapon bathed the ruin in green energy. The other Necrons fired on the monster as the rest of the cult blazed away from cover, their auto guns doing little to the distant, well-armored Necrons. The second immortal partially de-atomized Bonecrasher, tearing away layers of skin and muscle, forcing the aberrant to huddle back in the corner of the ruin, away from the arcing death lasers. The Necrons advanced up the alley steadily, with the exception of the Deathmark, who already had a good vantage point. Even the crushed immortal clambered to its feet and hefted its blaster, continuing the seemingly inexorable march towards the looming Southwest gate.Fletcher moved directly between the hellish machines and their goal, attempted to beat down the lead immortal or at least check its momentum. The skeletal alien easily avoided the foolhardy blows, falling back ever so slightly as the viciously accurate gauss fire reduced the veteran acolyte to a mewling carcass reeking of ozone. The rest of the cultists ran forward in a last-ditch effort, spraying bullets and praying to their alien gods for salvation.Their prayers were answered in the form of Bonecrasher, smashing through yet another ruined wall section, leaping after his escaping quarry, and managing to hit the regenerating immortal from behind. The aberrant did not stop, but continuously rained down piledriving blows until the immortal was nothing more than molten metal inside a crater. This time, it stayed dead.Cheered by this, the other lesser acolytes pelted the Necron warrior with lead. Still it kept coming, shrugging off many direct hits from the heavy stubber, until finally one of the nameless rabble picked it off with the his last round in the mag. Miraculously, the Necrons stayed down, and no sooner than the fight had begun, it was over. The Necrons melted away into the dust-choked night, leaving Bonecrasher to climb up to where the Deathmark was last seen and howl his victory from the sagging rooftop.Sorry for the lack of pictures, but a cursory look at my gallery will reveal that my archaeotech iphone is not up to the task, and at any rate, I was using proxied renegade mutants and cultists for my GSC... perhaps soon I can get my talons on some actually aberrants and acolytes.
