SM plasma guns on IG arms?

I bought a couple of death korps squads over the weekend at NOVA to make my IG Kill team. 

 

 

These are my first "IG" models I've bought and I have no reference so I'm asking this stupid question.

 

Would the SM plasma guns "fit" the normal IG arms? I've had no luck finding regular IG plasma guns/arms on ebay but I had a few SM plasma gun bits lying about. I'm quite hesitant to start chopping the lasguns and plasma guns so they could fit, but only if the SM guns don't look too big or off when "used" by IG.

 

Or worst case I use magnets, and have the guns mountable on the back like Halo's Master Chief when I want to use plasma guns and call it a day

Space Marine weapons are pretty chunky, and the Forgeworld Guardsmen are noticeably slimmer than Cadians and Catachans.

 

I think you'd likely be disappointed with the result. You could try making your own, if you can get hold of some plasma pistols and the Scion hotshot Lasguns then you might be able to make something convincing I reckon.

Lasgun plus plasma pistol is probably your safest bet in terms of conversion, but the over the shoulder plasma gun (a la the Fuel Rod Gun) sounds pretty cool too. Unless you regularly play in a Games Workshop, I’d also encourage you to check out the wide range of third party plasma gun proxies. Anvil, Mad Robot, or Victoria Miniatures will almost certainly have something that suits your fancy.

Thanks for answering about the clunky look of SM bits on IG. I think I'll just go with the over the shoulder magnetized special weapons so I can switch out as needed. Had the same thing going with my SM sergeants.

The old pewter cadian special weapon blister had them carry a regular plasma gun like a space Marine would weild a heavy bolter including power cables running to the power cell in the back pack... Perhaps The bulkier marine plasma gun could be rigged up in such a manner for a conversion and maybe not look so out of place with its bulk?

OHave you considered 3rd Party alternatives? I know Anvil Industry does Guard sized variants for the special weapons.

Forge world sell DKoK weapons packs which include 2 plasma guns and two meltas (amongst other bits), which are noticeably smaller than other equivalent guns. As the other guys says DKoK are particularly small when compared to marines. It depends how much you want to spend I guess!

The Marine weapons fit ok, you'll just need to make sure the arms work ok (i.e. room for the gun on the pose). The plastic Command Squad box has a Marine sized plasma gun for example :)

I own the DKoK special weapons kit and few models. They're so much finer than plastic IG. SM plasma guns would look silly.

Anvil aren't the best 3rd party option here for a change, if all you want is a gun since their special weapons are designed to slot onto specific torsos. You get half a weapon basically.

The heresy plasma guns are less chunky and would look quite good size-wise.

The heresy plasma guns do look pretty good on guardsmen (cadians at least), here is one I converted up.

I have used the combi plasma part of a combi weapon with lasgun stock before. I find they work well since they are smaller

Dunno why or if anyone mentioned that catachan and cadian command squads come with "normal" looking plasma guns that could be intresting conversion idea

They'll be very out of scale with DKoK models the OP wants to use for a kill team.

I believe they are the same sculpt

DKoK are a different scale to the plastic IG stuff, they are smaller. So others have said it might look odd 

 

The HH style plasma guns are a bit more compact and might fit better size and astheticwise

Also Victoria Miniature's plasma guns might fit from a size and look too.

I use SM plasmas for all conversions, i hack off the space marine hand though and make sure to use the arm and hadn from an existing IG weapon.
