Trunkello
Hello guys! I mainly bought my allarus because of the rule of cool. Really amazing models and it will be awesome to paint them. But i have a hard time imagining their usefullness on the battlefield. Yes their stats are brutal and have some amazing strategems but you have to have the right circumstances to pull it off. That 9" charge is hard and even after that the enemy can retreat and blast thrm to pieces. I mainly see them as a fear factor to the enemy. They have to think about that after turn 1 a unit of allarus can deepstrike anywhere and can destroy almost anything. But again they look fragile and circumstancial. So the right answer is: i clearly miss something. Thats why i am turning to you for answers :D Btw i will run them in a supreme command with 3 jetcaptains. I run my custodes as allies for my dark angels. They make and exellent bikergang. I run my custodes as allies for my dark angels. They make and exellent bikergang. They're not at all fragile, but they cost an awful lot of points and basically they aren't bikes is the issue. They can cut a tank/dreadnought in half in one fight phase, the issue is 1) you need to be able to deep strike within 9" of a unit, and 2) you need to successfully make that charge. If they can't do either of those things they're useless, and take so long to get up the battlefield and are so easily kited they're not worth it over standard guard with storm shields, or just bikes. Once they get in melee however, they are an utter nightmare to deal with. I've had a squad of 5 Allarus terminators annihilate a predator and two redemptor dreadnoughts turns 2, 3 and 4 subsequently, and I only lost a single model. The Castellan Strike strategem is mean. EDIT: In short I don't use them. I have a battalion of custodian guard and a banner, and then 12 bikes. Sometimes I replace the custodian guard with a baneblade and psykers. Arkaniss
I use my Allarus as a deep striking hammer, working in concert with the hammer of the rest of my Custodes army As rcoon points out the Allarus are tough and killy but you pay the points for it so I like to go all out and along with my Jetbikes they're the focus of my army. I pick out the opponents big bad and then from that choose somewhere free to DS them in and then they'll carve their way to their target. Sure, everyone knows how good the Jetbike Praetors are but I've found that 5 Allarus Custodians backed up by a Shield Captain in Allarus terminator armour wading through my opponents lines tends to attract some attention. Unless you're throwing them at a load of plasma or other such nasty weapons one thing Allarus are is not fragile. Points cost is their main drawback, however if you don't put them into unfavourable positions I find them worthy of their cost. Also as already pointed out they look awesome and with 40K that's also very important to remember when list crafting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350108-how-do-you-use-your-allarus/#findComment-5161255 Share on other sites
Charlo
Allarus with Axes are just pure murder. S8 is totally nasty and most of the book stratagems let them Death-Star with the best of em. Unleashing the lions when they get stuck in is a pure head move too! Causing a headache with targeting. BLACK BLŒ FLY
I put mine in deep strike reserve and use the strategem Vexilla Homer to make sure they get into combat the turn they arrive. It’s 3 CP and totally worth it. Don’t be afraid to advance your Vexilla Praetor to get him closer to an enemy unit you want to assault. MeatGrinder
I dont, honestly. They're too slow making a difference. Coming down t2 means a likely charge t3. its a shame, I think theyre one of the better units in the book between their combat ability and shooting output but unfortunately with how fast the meta is, and the beta deep strike rules, and their cost, they will always be second best to something that makes a more immediate impact on the board (*cough*Bikes*cough) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350108-how-do-you-use-your-allarus/#findComment-5161741 Share on other sites
