Strike from the shadows

I have a question about sfts. Most people, myself included, often use hard hitting units like aggressors, multimelta-devs, Hellblasters etc.

what you think would happen if you sfts let’s say one or two 10-man tacticals instead? A big enough threat that must be handled but not a game loosing loss if it’s shot up early. And use the big hitters like some sort of hammer from the deployment zone?

The only reason I might do that with tacticals is to bumrush a bunch of tanks and tie them down from shooting.  That's about the only benefit to doing tacticals.  Getting bolters within 12" rapid fire is not worth the 1 CP and/or risk of them getting shot to pieces, and most of the heavy weapons don't need to be that close.  I suppose maybe if you had some key targets for plas/combi plas sgt, sure, but then it just begs the question if there are better options to SftS with, and the answer is generally that there are.

You STFS the expensive and dangerous unit simply because it forces your opponent to account for it.  You will know exactly if you are going first before the unit is placed so keeping the unit off the table does not penalize you for doing it.  Currently in 8th the only functional point of a tactical squad is to hold the back line to prevent enemy reinforcements coming behind you.  Like anything your best to hold back you stearnguard your devastators or other expensive unit so that you can deploy them in the most effective place.  These units do not need to be placed close and you can STFS into your deployment zone the point is to place them in the optimal position to take advantage of table placement.
