Lore: Fabius Bile, Skilled or a DE pupil?

I'm part way done with the Fabius Bile: Clonelord novel.  I have been playing a Fabius Bile armies on and off for years just for fun.  I always enjoyed his lore and the old goofy model.

A dear friend of mine is ribbing me with claims that Fabius learned all he knows from the DE.  I see that he did study with the DE from the wiki but I'm trying to find the book and how much did he really learn from them.  In the book Clonelord he seems very good at his craft and a standout way above the normal apothecary.

So for the lore fans and knowledgable people when and how much did the DE really craft and mold Fabius's skills?  Is Fabius a hack and only notable because of the DE?  Or was this a case of a study abroad program where he was learning some new skills?

Thanks guys for the help working out a better understanding of the lore.

The very fact that the DE were willing to impart some of their skills unto him should immediately dispel any notion that Fabius isn't the joint-second most skilled human ever to have dabbled in the genetic arts (tied only with Cawl and surpassed only by the Emperor). In the Reflection Crack'd, Fabius even demonstrates knowledge of Primarch biology, seemingly without having had it taught to him.

Fabius created clones of Horus, Fulgrim, Ferrus Manus, and Sanguinius. He created geneseed that's actually compatible with females, made numerous mutants for specific jobs, and taught pretty much every apothecary that resides in the eye of terror. He did all of this before he even learned from the DE.

Also, if you're looking for an example of him being chummy with the DE, check out Lucius: The Faultless Blade.

Even then, to be fair, he's hardly 'chummy' with them.

He essentially banks on Lucius being able to escape, in order to take advantage of the ensuing chaos to steal knowledge from the DE.

true, but that's a significantly better relationship than most non DE can boast.

Huh, the No Means Yes legion does have a history of working with aliens more than the others...and I imagine they have a lot in common with Dark Eldar (how are they not just chaos eldar?)

Dark Eldar really are just closet chaos Eldar to be fair. The only thing that prevents them from getting eaten is that they are hiding pretty well without having any psyker and so on. ^^

Well most have a relationship to DE similar to a :cuss victim or worse so that's not exactly hard lol

Thanks guys for the feedback on this one.

I'm still expecting GW to use Fabius as one of the key story elements to create a new miniatures line for CSM over the next 5 years in line with the primaries models.

"Primachaos"? No, thanks!

True-scale infantry models would be nice, but true-scale is an independant thing from primaris. Look at the 8th plague marine models, they have improved scale, excellent details. They are also "true-scale" or partially true-scale, but don't get their background lore messed.

There are so many ways for Chaos Marines to get an upgrade on the crunch-side (they'd just need to translate their "fueled by warp powers" plot hook from fluff to crunch for once!). I REALLY hope whatever Chaos Marines might get, if they get it, won't be Primaris related. If Bile does something with Primaris and it comes to the table then I hope it's restricted to him as special character. An improved version of his upgrade ability or a special unit you can take only one of when you take him in the same detachment or whatever.

As already said, the haemonculi covens would never let him inside if he couldn't offer anything in return, they don't run a day-school.

He appears in Clonelord, Primogenitor, Lucius the Faultless Blade, Fulgrim(both the old HH and the new from the primarch series), reflection crack'd and a bunch of other short stories. Loads to go on from there :)
