Grim Dog Studios
Hi all, I’ve been wanting to get into Killteam since it was first released but haven’t had the chance until now. I pretty much know the basics from watching youtube reviews but I was just wondering where should I start? I have no interest in buying the starter set as I don’t want to really play admech or GSC and I already have terrain that I can use. I’ve bought the rulebook and currently waiting for it to arrive, however in the starter set there are counters and datacards etc, I was mainly wondering if these are required to play the game, or if I am set with my rulebook, models and terrain already? Axineton
You can get the counters etc cheap on eBay mate if you don’t want to shell out for a starter set. My deathwatch team mordelai came with deathwatch counters so I reckon the other kill team kits would too. Brother Tyler
The boxed set and each of the starter sets come with counters/tokens. Another alternative is to simply make your own. Page 5 of the core rulebook shows all of the tokens, so you can easily use those designs as a model for homemade versions that are colored/themed to your army, either printed versions or simple substitutes (perhaps you have extra bases you'd like to use, or you want to use materials that are readily available at most craft stores). Datacards are helpful, and GW has made both the command roster and datacards available for download here. If you don't like those, you can create your own versions. Alternately, you can write the relevant information down on paper that can be referred to during the game. Panzer
The token aren't needed to play at all but they do make things easier. The Datacards in the starter set have the same stuff printed on them as you have in the rule book. Only the Datacards in the specific kill team boxes have extra Tactics (something I still don't approve). If you already have models (basic Infantry for the most part) and terrain and ordered the rule book you are good to go. Just wait for it to arrive and maybe click around in Battlescribe meanwhile even if you don't know anything about the specialisms yet. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350294-where-to-start/#findComment-5166221 Share on other sites
Grim Dog Studios
Many thanks for the replies! I’ve found an ebayer that is selling the seperate kill team accessories (tokens and tactics cards etc) for the Space marines for a reasonable price so may pick them up if they make the game easier and have faction specific tactics not available in the main book! They also have the same for the Orks which my friend will likely be using as he already has a large collection of orks so I can see if he wants to buy that for himself.
