CyberC1
The successor chapter ruling makes sense in the context of the Space Marines book, e.g., someone could try to take an Imperial Fists army and take Captain Lysander + another Captain as a warlord, but then try to give the warlord the Black Templar warlord trait and the Fist of Vengeance (relic from Crimson Fists). Without the successor chapter rule, someone could say oh but you know, they're all from the same parent chapter, so end of the day they're actually Imperial Fists kinda. Obviously not done as intended, and such is presented in RAW. When they ported the language / rules over from that book to Codex: DA, they kept it, but don't think they really thought through the implications. FWIW, I just play my Angels of Vengeance as Dark Angels, and treat it as the Unforgiven legion. More reflective of how we operate anyway...
