Axineton
Now I know this very nooby but how do you all do batreps? Do you write down what happens or just remember off the top of your heads? I’d like to start doing them for my games I’ve started playing but have no clue if I’m being honest. I’ve taken a few pics on my second game and I took a few pictures tonight of my first game of kill team but I can’t really remember what’s gone on now tonight. So any hints would be appreciated. toaae
I would suggest a notebook, and just jot down quick notes at the end of the turn. Just some thing that line up with your pictures and the important parts of the turn. You don't have to write much detail, just enough to help remind you when you go to writing the Batrep. Jolemai
I like to write quite in depth reports (link in sig) so I jot down everything and take a photo at the start, end, and at the end of each game turn. If I've only got time for a summary, then I just take the photos and go off memory. Taking photos is actually a great way to take stock of what's happening in the game before your turn begins. Oh, and I always ask if it's OK to take pictures or write notes (especially as the latter can eat up a lot of time) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350447-question-regarding-batreps/#findComment-5170170 Share on other sites
Panzer
It really depends on how indepth your batrep is supposed to be and how used you are to your and your opponents army. The better you know the armies the easier it is to memorize what happens and the less indepth the batrep is supposed to be the less you have to memorize. MARK0SIAN
I don’t do them myself but a friend of mine always takes a brief video on his phone at the end of each turn, panning to each unit and narrating what they did in the turn. It sounds like it would take a while but it’s not super detailed so only takes him a couple of minutes. I got a fair way to go before I know the armies mate. I’ll get the hang of it over time I reckon. Master Commander Ajax
My favorite battle reports are ones that focus on narratives. Too often I find people get too bogged down in the maths and not the story so I personally wouldn't worry about recording every dice roll recorded in meticulous detail if it meant a better narrative. Make sure to share with us what you come up with! Atrus
You could always set up a video camera to record the game for your own reference. Play the game and take some photos as you go. Then when you're home you can pull out the video camera and write down from that. That way you can enjoy your game without having to get bogged down in trying to remember to take note of everything, and you can review the recording in detail later and write your batrep from that. I was thinking this earlier on today actually. I’ve got a tripod for my phone that I could use and then take pics with my iPad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350447-question-regarding-batreps/#findComment-5170595 Share on other sites
Redtoof
I take photos at various points in the battle and then just write what I can remember based off that. Usually the pictures trigger the memories, and if you do forget it then it can’t have been very important. My battle reports tend to be quite vague/lazy and only focus on the main events of the game, so I usually end up with around 8-12 pictures. People like to read different levels of detail, so no matter what you do you’ll probably find someone who likes it. I write the kind of reports I like to read - relatively short with pictures of cool things happening.
