Legio Metalica and the forces of the 73rd Expedition

I felt like a change of pace over Christmas so I've been working on my Knights, still a few little details to pick out on them but largely I'm happy with them:

Enter the Knights of House Hyperion, the Scions of Black Moon.

The three Questoris Knights are Artana Simha (with the power blade), Mrtyu Vanik (with the melta cannon) and Naraka Bhaati (with Gatling).  The Lancers are currently unnamed but I'm working on it.

Eventually there will be 40 Knights of House Hyperion led into battle by their Mazban (colloquial Baron equivalent) Khelab Ul-Dhur.

Very nice, love the power blade, cool conversion (is it a Vampire Counts grave guard double handed sword?). I also love the shields, beautiful. How have you done it? Is it painted transparent plastic?

Thanks! Yeah it's one of the grave guard great weapons, I just cut the chainblade off and used a flat file to slightly indent where the two round motor bits are so the blade was a bit more secure.

The shields are a sheet of transparent blue plastic attached to the back of the shield (I was originally goimg to attempt to cut a piece for each of the openings but that proved far too fiddly), I then stippled woodland scenic water effect on to give it some texture and finally gave it a wash with watered down druchii violet.

Looking good! I'd love to see some more pictures of the shields.

Ask and ye shall receive, as best I can anyway

And the back of the shield, like I say it turned out too fiddly to do individual pieces for the gaps so I had to do a sheet to cover the back, you mostly won't see it so I'm not too worried

It is very effective.

Seeing the additional pictures, one thing you might do is paint the trim on the back with the same metallic colour as the shield, but only if there is no risk of ruining your work of course.

I've thought the same thing, I think I should be able to do it easy enough.

Just a quick one today, I mentioned a few posts back that I'd ordered some name plates from Versatile Terrain, well, they arrived!  I quickly got them painted up and on bases:

Warlord Bases:

Reaver Bases:

Warhound Bases:

The wide plates might have been a bit much but actually I kinda like it.  As for the plates themselves they come with quite a few vanes attaching them to a base of sorts, I sprayed mine before removing them, but they come off easy enough and with a bit of cleanup (on the back and underside) they were ready to attach in a few minutes.  I'd definitely recommend them if anyone is looking for name plates for their titans, they're not super cheap, I had a 20% discount and it was still £32 for the 6 plates with shipping but I fully intend every one of my titans to be rocking these from now on!

Now to get Metalica Primis finished

They look great. The Versatile Terrain name plate is a very nice product, even if relatively expensive. On my list of things to add one day.

Yeah, I'd definitely say they're worth it for something like AT which has a relatively small model count. I'm thinking of getting some for my Inq28 stuff too.

Its been a rough few months and consequently I got nothing done.  This weekend though I resolved to get something done!  I've still got some work to do on the engine stacks and a bit of trim work to tidy up on the shoulders/laser blasters but Metalica Primis is getting close to being done!

I've decided once I've finished Metalica Primis I am going to start alternating between Metalica and Surturvora engines.  so depending on how much money I can spare it will either be the Warlord Ig-Alima, the Reaver Magma Heart or the Warhounds Lulal and Inanna. After doing a bit of reading on Surturvora it seems they are known for their use of heavy engines and having less Reavers than some legions so I will be mostly doing Myrmidon maniples for the Surturvora forces with supporting Venator and Lupercal maniples.

I'm hoping to get a bit of free time this week to finish Metalica Primus off

Metalica Primis is finished!  It's been a funny few months, starting a new job with much more responsibility has left me drained most of the time so I've let my projects languish but I sat down at weekend and made sure I was going to finish her off!

I do have some background fluff nearly ready for her which I will post up shortly when I've just tidied it up a little more.  I've started using World Anvil to track the background for my force, which is good in that once I started putting the timeline together there was some unintentional overlap of events which I've needed to go back and fix up.

I've also had a bit of time to think about the Legio symbol.  Since I doubt Forge World is going to ever give us Metalica transfers I think I am going to be freehanding them.  So I've had a quick sketch of my interpretation of the Legio symbol,  I wanted something a bit more stylised than a standard skull but without it looking exactly like the Iron Warriors symbol, I may go back and tweek a bit here and there but generally I'm quite happy with how its come out:

What to you think? I went for something similar to the SIlver Skulls symbol but with the crossed bones/helmet from the old Metalica symbol.  It shouldn't be too hard to freehand either, which is always a plus!

Despite being quiet for a few months I haven't been completely idle.  I had a crack at the Metalica Logo on Metalica Primis, I think it turned out ok, now to complete the other Metalica engines

I've also (nearly) finished the first 4 Surturvora engines:

I was a bit daunted doing the flames at first but after a couple of trial runs on spare panels I went for it, I think you can definitely see which patterns I did first and which I did last once I was a lot more confident with them, perhaps at some point I'll go back over some of them but I think they'll be ok for now.  I just need to finish off their bases and get some transfers applied.  Oh and buy some nameplates for the bases too.

FInally, reinforcements are inbound for the Knights of House Hyperion!

The freehand on the Sutovora titans is awesome I thought they were transfers at first!

Thank you!  It took a bit of practice (and I think theres still room for improvement) but I'm happy with how they look!

Great paint applications and weathering effects on the Titans!

Thanks :)

\m/ very much so!  I tried translating the names of some of their songs but there was only a couple that didn't sound a bit silly in Latin.
