Zone Mortalis

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gotten any FW zone mortalis tiles and had any tips for layout/build? I scraped and scrounged my way to affording the big daddy battlefield network and really want to go nuts with it.

The core of my question is if there are any sections that’s give you trouble when making layouts that would benifit from blowing a wall out for the trifecta of gameplay/modeling fun/coolness point of view.

I’m also curious if these are subject to warping like other resin products and if you just have them the hot bath in a maaaaasssive pot. Thanks!

I have $0.02 for ya.

As a lot of the Zone Mortalis missions require you to randomly generate a map (one even involves revolving tiles randomly each turn) I wouldn't worry about your layout all that much.

One of my favourite things about ZM is you can easily run a narrative campaign with a friend over a day and fit in 3 or 4 games. I can only see things like collapse walls and such adding to the thematic setting. If you are looking for some good inspiration I'd suggest going over a few of the missions in the rulebook, as these have some decent background. Some of the tile sections can get a bit monotonous to paint after a while, so the conversions/modifications will probably help keep you interested.

The tiles themselves are quiet thin, so I would be careful when trying to take chunks out of walls. I'd suggest using clamps and soft wood to hold the tiles down while you attempt this. But if you are looking for a battle damaged look then slight tile damage might not be an issue for you.

I think slight warping is fairly common, but as you said above, its nothing a hot water bath wont fix.

I think you are doing the right thing by researching before you buy, its a lot of money to drop on a board and its also a huge time investment. Overall I'd recommend taking your time and trying to make each tile as unique as possible. Massive project, but if you stick with it will be hugely rewarding and everyone you game with will be made jealous.
