Metallic Armour on Space Wolves.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I want to know if anybody here paints their Space Wolves with metallic paints? What colours do you prefer, more blue or more gunmetal?

I've tested some metallic paints like light blue, bluish titanium, gunmetal on some primaris models and I like the overall result.

My favourite being Timaya Light Blue. However it does make them look more like Ultramarines / Thousand Sons. My one friend says its not Wolfy enough. But the idea of doing "Ultra Wolves" does sound appealing.

Thinking of wolfing them up with lots of browns and bone details.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I do the armor in light blue (space wolves grey usually) but I use leadbelcher for anything I consider metal: parts of guns, swords, backpacks, and the tubes on their midriffs. I see a lot of Marines in general painted with their chapter color covering the whole gun, entire armor, backpack, helmet, everything--and it reminds me way too much of pajamas. Leadbelcher is one of my favorite colors to use for details.

Thanks for replying. Yeah full 40k army is painted with Russ Grey too.

But Im thinking something quick for some Kill Teams. Was considering the normal Russ Grey, or Mechanicus Grey for a more Viking Look and then Metallic. Stuck between choosing one of those three options for my main armour colour.

I dont go in for all gunmetal as I always thought it was too close to Grey knights,

Saying that though Vyrkls ones above look great with all the red/bronze.

I'm currently painting up new wolves, I use dark grey for all the armour, (literally just balck and administratum grey), and then as im doing mk3, that leaves a lot of trims etc which im then using the combo of balthasar gold highlited with scyorax bronze, which then pops nicely against the non-metallic-but-dark grey

Heres a rough shot of my WIP hunter pack (plus my counts as arjac/njal WIPS in the back)

Does anyone know a paint for Chrome / mirror  paint? If it even exist :/

It exists, but you would need an airbrush for it. I think there are pens as well. I wouldn't recommend going crazy with it though, it messes with the scale quite a bit and really doesn't look good IMO.

True chrome paint doesn't exist because it's more of an alloy than proper paint so you can't just brush it on. However I've bought myself a Liquid Chrome marker from Molotov which works nicely if there aren't too many details (it's a marker after all so depending on the size of it you might have trouble getting the paint where you want it with too many details in that area).
