Dorn forgive me

Oh... Hey there. I seem to have clicked on the wrong forum... Ok I confess... I want to build an Ultramarines army...

Im a Dorn guy. Always have been. But always in a very close second... So close it almost shares the number 1 slot in my heart is Guilliman and his sons.

You guys here know why you are awesome so I'm not gonna geek out on the reasons.

But I have a problem. Which chapter do I paint up. I need your help brothers, so bear with me... Read my assesments and help me pick. I have three options here and the differences are so minimal it's laughable that I just don't flip a coin. The order is random, I like them all equally.

Novamarines - I love their history, homeworld and color scheme. There appears to be two color schemes however... Bone and blue or blue and white. The codex and forgeworld have them bone. But Duncan from Warhammer Community painted them white in his tutorial. I loved the quartered white and blue scheme. Plague War sealed the deal and I'm a huge fan.

Eagle Warriors - always thought the halved color scheme was cool. Of all chapters rocking that scheme, the eagle Warriors come out on top for me. And their name is just so stinking cool. Of the Chapters that I'm pondering on, they are the least fleshed out... Which gives me some room to play with how I paint what. I've already decided if I go with them sergeants get a red skull on their helm... Just like it used to be. Honor markings will be red. Cool bonus is I get to use the standard squad decals from the boxed sets... Never done that before. And their badge looks simple to do by hand. Lore wise they are a fleet based chapter. That's full of win for me.

Marines Errant - I checked and rechecked. These guys sound like they come from Papa Dorn himself. Imagine my surprise that Guilliman had his own Black Templars... And they rock a kick ass halved color scheme to boot. Space Marines who actually sound like Space Marines. Be still my beating heart. Forgeworld had them silver but I like the blue/white scheme better personally (see the pattern here?). Picking up this Chapter after they have been rescued from Extinction from Guilliman sounds exciting. Vengeance Crusade anyone?

Anyway this has been fun. Help me out. I could literally flip a coin here.

Thanks brothers.

I'm no son of Guilliman, so I'm not sure how much weight my opinion carries, but I'd go with the Marines Errant. Space Marines specialising in ship-to-ship combat seem ridiculously rare, and as you said already, it would give you the opporunity to expand upon a chapter that will likely never see any official development again.
Plus, Forge World has created a Marines Errant character you may want to build - Lieutenant Commander Anton Narvaez has no official model as far as I know. More interesting conversion ideas come to mind in form of Veterans or Honour Guard with Boarding Shields and heavy power axes and mauls, lots of sturdy Mk3 power armor or squad sergeants wielding naval boltguns (may not be available ruleswise, but hey - as long as it looks cool...).

Both chapters are great! This is how rediculous I am... It's practically the same damned scheme, just flipped. Id probably paint everything else the same.

I honestly think it's between these two Chapters ATM. Novamarines are great but it's these two I'm truly debating on at this point. It's time to rate individual qualities.

Lore/Background - I believe these chapters to be close in temperament... As one is a successor of the other and they are both fleet based. The Marines Errant are noted and reknown Crusaders. The Eagle Warriors are mentioned to be on continual campaign in the systems conquered by Guilliman in the Great Crusade. That could mean the same thing but I read that there is a slight difference... With the Marines Errant edging out their Primogenitor chapter due to their more fleshed out background as a boarding specialist crusading Chapter. Badab War is a plus.

Winner - Marines Errant

Color Scheme - Both Chapters sport a similar scheme. How I'm planning them is basically which side of my marines do I want white. Honestly the Eagle Warrior Scheme is more appealing to me at a glance. I do not know why my brain is being drawn to the white being on that side more than the other... But it is. I also feel I would be taking more liberties if I paint the Marines Errant... As I'm not keen on the silver... And even less so on the golden helmets. That would get the axe... And even though taking liberties wouldn't bother me too much... I'd constantly wonder if I would second guess that decision.

Winner - Eagle Warriors

Rules - I'm going for an all Primaris force. I have no urge to use traditional space marines so I'm not going to be able to use the special forgeworld character.

Winner - Draw

Typing this out was cathartic. I like both Chapters very much. I think even though I like the Marines Errant lore and fleshed out character more... I have more hesitation regarding the liberties I would take to enjoy painting them how I want. Maybe I'm putting too much stock in what Forgeworld did with the scheme.

I'm leaning Eagle Warriors. Maybe... Yeah... I don't know... I need a coin...

Welcome to the ranks of Blue brother:wink: Marines Errant and Eagle warriors are both good choices. Marines Errant, with their boarding specialist thing would look great with lots of boarding shields and heavy armor (MkIII, Terminator, etc) would look awesome.... just a thought:happy.:

Ok all. I have decided on Eagle Warriors. 4th Company specifically. Now let's move on and forget the Novamarines and Marines Errant... Cause if I think on it I'll be stuck in limbo forever.

Time to get to buying and painting. Now it's going to be a week or so until I get home from work but work will immediately begin on a 5 man Intercessor squad when home. This thread will be updated as progress moves along.

Since I'm a week away from doing anything physical, and I'm bored to death in my hotel after work most nights; this thread will serve as a place to post my musings and thoughts on this project. Feel free to jump in and discuss with me.

Post the initial 5 man squad, I want to expand to a quarter of a Company with support. Here is what I'm thinking for a small 1500 pt army:

Primaris Captain - power sword/mc auto bolt rifle

Primaris LT - mc auto bolt rifle

3 x 5 man Intercessor Squad with bolt rifles and 1 Auxiliary Grenade Launcher

1 x 5 man Hellblaster Squad with Plasma Incinerators

1 x 5 man Inceptor Squad with Assault Bolters

2 x Repulsor Tanks with Las talon/twin linked lascannons/Icarus rocket pod/storm Bolters/auto launchers.

I'm not sure how effective that is. But I think it will end up being a good starting core to an army. One I hope gets cheaper in a month.

The idea of a Repulsor Orbital Drop Team is consuming my imagination from a lore/fluff perspective. Ideally I want a third Repulsor. I'm just really inspired by the Primaris stuff. I was never in danger of being bored of Space Marines... But I'm exceptionally digging these new concepts. Orbital Drop tanks... Yes! Land Speeder/Assault Marine/Rico's Roughnecks hybrid? (book not movie)... Double yes!! Give me my Overlord to complete the dream GW!!!

Wait... Sete... It's not what it looks like... We are just friends... She means nothing to me...

Besides, every long term hobbyist has a little army on the side, ya know? I have my Ultras, but it started with a little flirting with yellow for a competition, then kill team, and now I've got black and white checks and bleeding hearts everywhere. But I know who brought me to the party, so I make sure my Ultras get some love too. A guy can have multiple hobby loves.
