Entering the slow grow

Hey everyone,

Come the end of the year my local Warhammer store will be running a slow grow and this time I'm going with deathwatch! I did very well in our previous slow grow running celestial lions that ended up with a couple of knights joining at the end but this year is a little different.

 

The Rules:

Starting with a 500 point patrol detachment each month we have 2 games and then can increase 250 points. Models can change equipment but units may not decrease in size or be removed once added to the roster. Last rounds are at 2000 points.

Bonus: 1 Starting hq can add 1 to any of his stat line (inv up to 3+) and gets a free relic. no monsters/ vehicles

And 1 starting troops choice can add 1 to any stat aside from save and wounds.

 

My current plan:

I am very novice with deathwatch but think I have my game plan!

My 500 point list consists of

 

Watch Captain

Storm Bolter, Thunder Hammer, Beacon and +1 to invuln save

 

Intercessor squad

5x bolt rifles with +1 to BS

 

Intercessor squad

5x Assault bolters, 1x aggressor with boltstorm

 

Veteran squad

Sergeant with power sword and storm bolter

3x storm bolter chainsword, 1x Storm bolter storm shield, 1x Vanguard with 2 bolt pistols

 

My intercessor squad with rifles I will end up increasing to include 3x plasma inceptors and 2x bolt aggressors. They will be the main candidate to beacon into position and unload hell. Hitting on 2s rerolling 1s will help with the plasma.

 

The captain doesn't need a storm shield so gets a bonus weapon and relic so that seems like a win.

 

Veterans will end up with 2 frag cannons and more storm bolters

 

The other intercessors go full dakka with 2 more aggressors and bolter inceptors so they can just run around shooting.

 

My 2k list ends up with a dominus aegis watch captain caring for 2 las/missle Ven dreads, a dakka redemptor to deep strike in along with a chaplain dreadnought And terminator librarian.

 

Any thoughts are welcome, we are definitely not a WAAC group of people so not looking for hyper competitive, but still losing every game isn't much fun

Looking at starting the JP captain on board and teleporting, I'm not 100% on how the community is taking the rules of teleporting after deep strike, I believe it's a nope?

1 rule I forgot is we are not using beta rules so can deep strike turn 1.

So I've had a couple of practice 500 point games and the best game I've had was running the 2 intercessor squads (-the aggressor) and a venerable dreadnought with assault cannon and fist.

At the lower point games I'll be running the captain with bane bolts as it seems better use of a relic. I'll probably swap to beacon at 1000 points when I have the intercessor squad with 2 aggressors and 3 plasma.
