Mithrilforge
heya, i really love this effect(see below) and want to do a building in this effect but the box art says- mech standard grey base, Karak stone layer, screaming skull layer and white scar layer.... either i'm getting old and blind (most likely) but this looks more celestra grey and ulthuan to me.!! anyone else think differently?? Thanx in advance if anyone can help... Cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350889-colour-question-on-gw-base/ Share on other sites
Arkhanist
I agree, celestra, agrax, ulthuan and white scar/praxeti will get you pretty close to that scheme, though it will be a bit bluer/cooler. karak & skull layers would be much closer to bone. Bear in mind the real painted scheme is quite often simplified to one that fits neatly in the base/layer system, they never recommend mixing paints (other than lahmium) which is how you'd do it with the recommended paints I think, i.e. mix mechancius, karak and skull together. To my eye there is a warmth to the grey that'd you'd not get from pure ulthuan, I think adding some deepkin flesh or pallid wych flesh to the ulthuan layer would get you closer. Ranging from citadel paints, I'd airbrush grey primer then something like vallejo model air USAF light grey (71.276) which is pretty close to that colour if I'm eyeballing it right, then a thinned agrax pin wash (or flory models grime wash, easier to clean up) and white highlight, job done. Mithrilforge
Thanks for the feedback, I see a warm tone in there too, perhaps I’ll try a base of karak stone and then work up to the whites.. With Agrax as the wash. I’ll post some pics when it’s done , Cheers, mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350889-colour-question-on-gw-base/#findComment-5181467 Share on other sites
