Are these "red flags" for you?

I agree that his behaviour is odd (not in the general way, but rather a something suspicious) but as already mentioned that doesn't prove anything. When dice are involved some unlikely events can happen; earlier this year a friend rolled five 1s in a row which was crippling - when discarding the die it then landed as... you guessed it, another 1! Nobody accused him of having weighted dice :laugh.::wink:

As it's a campaign I'd chalk it up to experience for the moment. If you play/see a game with him rolling like the Dice Gods are his parents then maybe you might want to consider your options. If it does look dodgy then realistically you're probably going to have to withdraw from the campaign unless enough other participants also experience and suspect, but you don't want a witch hunt. A game of "he said, she said" doesn't usually end well after all.

Hey how does chessix fire d6 rate for visibility in y'alls opinions? I had a thing of 12 that I got with my CSMs and I bought...more and I now use them with all my armies using the smaller ones when I'm dinking about trying to play 40k or killteam like boltaction. I keep them in an old Crown Royal sack.

Whenever possible I prefer to use Casino Precision Dice.

We use them some in the last Blood Bowl league i played in.

Themed dice are really cool and all, but nothing beats Precision Dice.

Edit

To bad GW do not make themed Precision Dice.

I would pay 40 Euro for 2 Alpha Legion Precision Dice.

That obviously depends on the set of dice you got from them. The marble fire set with white dots is horrible to read but the speckled fire with black dots is fine.

Speckled fire with black dots, yeah I like them myself. I had some of the 36 count tiny (but not super small ones) that I had some awesome plain gray and black dots (which were my favorite), and two sets that I found a little hard to read, dark brown and bright green dots and purple and red that I used for plasma and power weapon attacks.

The purple and red were janky, but like I said, now I use them for my unit/model turn generators ala boltaction.

Dice really do have that mystique to them, and much like the sports world, there's kind of an innate presumed contract in these circles for abiding by these little quirks.  It just comes with the territory, so while it sounds weird, it's more or less 'wargame permissive' much like the hockey players and play off beards:, socks, and underwear... it can come off as creepy and borderline 'off' but it's kind of the de jeur attitude around it.

Personally, I've seen weirder.  You remember when assault cannons could jam in 3rd by rolling 3 1's?  I did it twice in a row.  I've seen 'Bullet Bill the Las cannon gunner" never die to shooting in 50-odd games.  I've rolled 4D20 and 4D12 at the same time and got all 1's in front of 5 other people.  I have a friend who plays competitively in the local 40K community, and he's been tracked to have seized the initiative in more than 40% of the games he was in.  Some things are just weird quirks of nature and chance, doesn't mean there's any outside manipulation despite how many would pray to the dice gods.

I frequently roll pretty poorly, and I do think that the clear dark red Dark Imperium dice set I got roll the hottest of any dice I've ever owned in my life (totally worth the whole 8E purchase just for those 12, perfectly unblemished red little cubes that make my grenade and rocket shots worthwhile). But I've tossed over a die or two for people to use before if they were short or wanted to quick roll with another weapon.  Usually it's those circumstances that people are pretty good about dice sharing: when it serves a purpose.  But otherwise, people will often just be weird when it comes to dice, and "C'mon dude, let;s touch dice.  Total bro stuff.  Like, I just wanna hold it.  Hey, hey let me use your dice!" is kinda how it might come across to others.  Like, they're dice, you've got them, unless you've been rolling really poorly and want a new set, then use your own.

If someone's gonna go to the effort of doing anything untoward to slightly unbalance a dice game then Warmaster help you, that's probably not the only thing they're gonna do to stack the odds in their favour.  And they're probably not gonna be a good opponent in any way if it matters that much.

Personally when I use my own dice and I have a luck day, I don't mind when people ask to use my dice.

Sharing some "luck" dice is a show of trust and honesty as far as I am concerned.

Or in some games where few dice are need, all use the same Precision Dice.

Just make show that everyone is on the same playing field.

But I would not use Precision Dice if there are more that 4 dice need per roll.

Precision Dice are nice in my opinion, but not vastly superior to "normal" dice.

So I would not recommend having a large number of Precision Dice.

But I like my 16 mm Backgammon Precision Dice.

Anyhow sharing dice when you are lucky is to show that you are not cheating.

It shows that you are will to play on equal terms.

Not to share dice when you are lucky give the impression that you are playing with loaded dice.

Are loaded dice so common in parts that it's a default explanation?  "Your dice are rolling well and you refuse to hand them over, must be weighted!"   I tend to use the other W word, "WITCH!"  Because dice magic is usually what I think of well before I consider weighted dice.

Some people are dice witches, some aren't.  I am not, nor am I a dice warlock.  I just accept my lot, knowing I should never go to Vegas.... again.

Hopefully everyone's default explanation is lady luck, I'd hate to think cheating is so pervasive in parts of the community. Really though it sounds like the main issue is the whole rolling behind a building, picking the dice up and saying "see, another 6!" No need for that ever.

Last time my D&D group rolled characters my Wife rolled nothing but 5's and 6's and I rolled nothing but 1's and 2's, with the same damn set of dice! I used hers because they were clearly in the zone...

Still hate those themed GW dice though, I can't read them at all in most cases.

I doubt very many people play with intentionally weighted dice. But if you're playing with the small 36cube Chessex dice, they might just be poorly balanced. And for those people who literally destroy dice that roll bad a few times in a row, I think it's possible for someone to "accidentally" Darwin their dice into success.

As for the OP, I guess I get not wanting to let someone use your dice, but in that case you should be willing to use theirs, especially if the luck has been so skewed.

I get myself into trouble because I assume that people are joking when they act superstitious about dice or anything else. They'll laugh and then say, "no, seriously". It's such bollocks to me that I still can never figure out if they really mean it and think their rituals are really going to do anything.

For me, I'd rather stop using dice that are rolling hot. Rolling poorly is no fun, but rolling insanely well while your opponent rolls poorly is not satisfying, not fun or interesting, and extremely awkward. I never know what to say when that one comes up for my enemy or I get another six. It doesn't help that it seems like most of my opponents, even the really nice ones, seem to have no problem celebrating their successes or my misses. I just can't seem to get excited without feeling guilty about it. Even when the six I rolled is my first one for the game, and I'm still losing, I still tend to say, "aw, too bad. Sorry..." (completely sincerely)

It all comes down to trust.

I used to play with some "bone" dice like the one below

s-l640.jpg

And despite losing all the Blood Bowl game I played with them I was ask to stop using them because they where a bit to lucky.

I was a bit offended when I was ask to do this, but when everyone was as not to use their personal dice I calmed down.

(Funny thing is the only real bit of luck I had was killing a vampire in the first game I lost in the league)

If he was using the themed dice from GW I would be very surprised if they were weighted - no, I would be more concerned at his shifty behaviour not rolling all his dice in plain sight so you can confirm the rolls he's making...

The dice from GW aren't weighted, but some do roll very weird. Specifically the Death Guard/Nurgle dice which, being mostly RUBBER bounce like no one's buisiness  Those ones are a little hard to read from a distance, but I usually put them in the center after rolling them.

But yes. The not rolling his dice in plain sight is the actually shifty behavior.

Those nurgle dice look goddawful and hard to decipher at speed, so I'd not be keen on anyone using them.

Anyhow, if the game's being played and the dice are spread out a bit I don't see a problem if just for efficiency's sake you were to use the dice close at hand.

However, outright asking to use someone else's dice is kind of inferring that you think your opponent isn't on the up and up, especially when you're wanting to use them here and there.

But your opponent should also have shown a bit of good grace and not had a hissy fit after the game too.

I've rolled both ice cold and super hot hot fire on tons of types of dice. I have also played people that fast roll in a manner that seems REALLY sketchy but I've known them long enough that i know they wouldnt cheat. If it was someone i didnt know though I would 100% tell them to slow down and show their work so to speak.

This to me sounds like he rolled hot and is just a weirdo. I try not to attribute cheating or malice when being odd will do. Bottom line though if it wasnt a fun game, dont play them. Can't avoid it? Talk to them respectfully.

If I learned something i was doing made someone elses game not enjoyable id feel like crap and want to correct it.

We used to have a guy around that rolled his yellowish battletech dice. on one set the picture was a 1 and on an identical set it was a 6. He was careful about how he rolled them and keeping it a secret.
I roll the red GW dice from the old boxed sets and the battle dice sets still. I have some yellow dice with black pips on them that are easy to read at a distance and some B&C dice.
I don't think any of them are any better or worse than the others. Except depending on the gaming surface they are rolled on. Over they years I have seen it make a difference. Last time it was very noticable I was rolling my red dice on a GW realm of battle table. They rolled far better than they ever had before.

Thats so funny, I absolutely HATE rolling on a RoB table. I swear 80% cocked rate.

Yeah Casino dice are horrible for gaming tables since they were specifically designed for craps tables and must hit the back of the table. If you want precision then get Koplow dices.

Gravity Dice also work if you're willing to drop $10 a die. Bought a set of six some time ago and have been meaning to pick up a another set or two so I can roll for bigger weapons using them. Also want to repaint my Imperial knight die because while the design is easy to read and color combo is not.
