Greetings, space-gribblies!

I've decided to start a Genestealer Cult army and figured I would start a project journal here on B&C.

The Children of the King in Yellow are a cult who spread their ideologies via a text known as the King in Yellow. Those who reads the text are driven insane and begin to serve the Patriarch with fanatical devotion.

My Genestealers will be in a pure yellow scheme, with the early hybrids looking jaundiced, and the 4th gen having normal skin tones.

Here is what I've got so far, hope you enjoy it! I'll be working on lore and background for the cult as it grows.

Nice to see Lovecraft invade the hive fleets and 40k.

I'm glad someone picked up on that, it was pretty overt but I wasn't sure if we would have any Lovecraft fans here.

I'm excited to get a Patriarch and Magus painted up as the King in Yellow and his Mask.

@Cognative, some of the pictures of the king in yellow should make some great reference for a colour scheme for a GSC, even some of the art from the rpg CthulhuTech are just fantastic for colour schemes aswell.

I'd love to see the finished scheme once done.

And yes I'm a major Lovecraft fan and doing my bachelor's on Lovecraft writing

I've got my first game with genestealer cults tonight, 750 points. I'll be playing against a buddy using the index version of Space Wolves or Eldar. We decided to do index only to keep a Level Playing Field. I'll be running three squads of neophytes with heavy stubbers, grenade launchers, and Mining lasers. They will be hanging out in the backfield with an iconward. A unit of neophyte hybrids will be advancing up the board, while the Abominant and Abberants strike from the shadows. I also have a Primus in reserves, who will either try and pick off a week unit or character, or escort the aberrants if the abominant rolls poorly on the table.

I will be happy if the only thing that happens this game is the abominant roflstomping one character.

So, I ended up facing an Eldar Wraithguard army and it was... Tough. We ended with 3 Wraithguard alive and me wiped out. The Abominant did a ton of work, killing a full Wraithguard squad and a Wraithlord. The Abberants and Primus completely wiffed and got destroyed. Hybrids moving up the board got smited to death before doing anything. The Eldar player was using Alitoc rules so -1 to hit in shooting and most of my weapons wounded on 6, so the guns did absolutely nothing.

Anyways, Abominant did his job, I had fun.

I dig your paint scheme.  I also dig the theme, as The King in Yellow is one of my favorite collections of weird tales.  Out of curiosity, what colors did you use on the flesh?  I'm assuming that the clothing is Flash Gitz Yellow, but the flesh on the Acolytes and Aberants has a green-ish tint to it.  Just wondering how you got there.

It's Ushbati Bone with Casandora Yellow wash over it. Then the gen2/3s get a progressively heavier drybrush of bone to bring it back to skin tones.

This weekend I have 2 small games coming up with a friend of mine who's dipping his toes back in the 40k waters. We are going to play a 500 and 750 point game, and he will be running AdMech with Knight support. His 500 point list is a Dominus, 2 ranger squads, a dunecrawler, and an armiger.

I will be running a Legendary Fighter Abominant with Hammer/Improvised Abberants ambushing, and 3 squads of Neophytes with mixed mining lasers, grenade launcher, and heavy stubbers.

The game plan is to ambush and destroy the armiger as it moves forward, and then depending on unit placement, return to the shadows with the abominant and strike at the next vulnerable target.

I'm still finalizing my list for the 750 game, but it will be pretty similar adding in a Primus, a Goliath and some hybrids.

Looking good! Very distinct and striking colour scheme. What's next under your brush? :tu:

An Armiger at 500 points? That'll hurt. I'm curious to see if your plan will work. The Abominant is a beast but I'm not sure it'll be enough to take down the Armiger.

Next up is a Magus and Primus, along with a Goliath. Not sure how I'm going to paint the Goliath yet so that'll be a long one. I'm also working on converting a Broodlord as I hate the standing on a pipe pose, and also hate the holding a marine skull hand. I also just primed a bunch more acolytes, adding 3 more mining lasers, another heavy stubbers, another seismic cannon, and all the passengers for the goliath. I'm trying to get all the special weapons done because I can easily proxy the auto gun acolytes with my guard until the fodder gets done.

As for the armiger, I think the Abominant and friends can take him out in a single go with decent dice rolls. I'll focus all the mining lasers on the dunecrawler, grenades and autoguns on rangers, and pray to the 4 armed emperor.

The Yellow Children have faced of against an AdMech army tonight in 2 small games, 500 and 750. In the first game the Abominant and friends rolled through just about the entire AdMech army when he left a flank exposed. The killed a dunecrawler and Dominus in one round and cause havoc throughout.

Game 2 the AdMech player wised up and had plenty of chaff on the flanks, and I did not roll well for strike from the shadows or any of my charges. His Onager did some serious damage, but the Abominant was able to take out a Armiger in one go. That was pretty much my only victory that game, with the -1 to hit of the Stygies VIII trait really hurting my acolytes grenade launchers, mining lasers, and heavy stubbers.

Looking forward to a good update in the codex.
