Buying Quickshade in the UK

Hi guys, i'm looking at getting some Army Painter Quickshade for a few projects where the painting doesn't need to be amazing (Blackstone Fortress, Darksouls Boardgame etc)

Is there a good place to pick-up some army painter quickshade online for the UK? Amazon have it but it's quite pricey and not on Prime service.

I presume you're after the oil-based quickshade dip (comes in tins), the quickshade washes are similar to citadel washes. They do have to go by courier which bumps the shipping up a bit.

Seconding element games, they're my go-to first choice for paint (they stock a good set of ranges) and models in the absence of a local FLGS. They do have a slightly annoying habit of still listing obscure stuff they're not going to get in for months, but for the usual supplies they're very prompt and competitively priced.

If element games are out for some reason, firestormgames has also been a reliable seller.

Quickshade acrylic washes are very similar to the pre 2012 citadel washes, but cheaper per ml and in a dropper bottle. If you've ever pined for Devlan Mud, army painter quickshade strong tone wash is damn near identical. So they are pretty similar to current citadel shades e.g. Agrax and Druchii etc, and similar range of colours, but subtle differences.

Quickshade in a tin (usually called dip) is basically coloured wood varnish. Much thicker and gloopier, oil based, definitely feels like something you'd pick up in B&Q. It's no more toxic than enamels, but Royal Mail won't carry 'Solvent-based paints, wood varnishes and enamels' (presumably because of flammability) which definitely covers dip.

Dip can be brushed on (how I usually do it) and gives a bolder yet more graduated shade - works far better on flatter surfaces than acrylic washes - but it does generally mean you do the whole model in it, and you need to 'drain' pools around crevices with a sacrificial small brush* (not doing this is one of the markers that shows it's a dipped model). And it only comes in light brown, dark brown and very dark brown (soft, strong & dark, respectively).

* If you brush on/drain pools, that brush is gonna need white spirit to clean and even then it won't be quite the same. Don't be using your prized kolinsky sable in other words.

Royal Mail won't carry 'Solvent-based paints, wood varnishes and enamels' (presumably because of flammability) which definitely covers dip.

Yeah if it’s a Flammable liquid then it comes under class 3 in the UN hazardous materials list and you need all sorts of paperwork and packaging and stickers if it goes over 5 litres or 30kg etc etc pretty boring and I do this as my job with shipping flammables and other hazardous materials.

I honestly didn’t know army painter did varnishes like that. Oh well I’ve derailed the thread enough
