All Infantry Imperial Guard Vs Tau Empire

Greeting Commanders,

This weekend I had a battle with my pure infantry Mordian Iron Guard Vs the Tau Empire, link below. I love pure infantry and It got me thinking that it would be good to have a thread where people can post their own infantry tactics, especially what regiment traits work best with a mostly infantry army.

To get the thread started I have 3 important lessons I learned from that game:

1) I need to get faster, it took all day to play and film the game!

2) Mass lasguns can get the job done. My heavy and special weapons were letting me down this game and my lasguns did the vast majority of the damage.

3) It is very important to have a steamlined army, My shooty squads had a mix of weapons and it did slow down the game, on the other hand my assault squads were very quick to use each turn because they were all the same.

Hi,

maybe you should change the title to make clear it´s meant to be an all infantry thread and not a Tau against IG thread.

That beeing said, the thing I like to know: do you think that all infantry is playable at 1000 points too? I´m heavily intrested in playing this kind of game, but I wonder if there is any chance to get a well rounded force at 1000 points for some casual games (no tournaments).

Hello Mordian Glory,

8 hours?? Woof! That sounds exhausting! Good show, though, friend. I always love a good batrep, keep 'em coming! Say, have you considered using different colored dice to speed up your shooting? You could write a key for reference. Red for heavy weapons, green for special weapons, white for lasguns. Then you could do all your rolls together, instead of separately. That should help speed up the game a little. Perhaps, you were already firing all your fire support squads together as well? So that's good. All in all, that looked like a very fun game to play.

Also, the casualties!

"I understand you've lost three quarters of your company, Captain Rigan. That was not the question. Did you complete the objective?"

As far as tactics go, when I play, I go Vostroyan. That way my infantry can enjoy the same luxury that T'au fire warriors have; being able to out-range other enemy infantry. Ah, the Vostroyan 30" range las rifle. Folks, there is real merit to the volume of fire infantry squads can dish out. The way I see it, any extra range will open up more opportunities to fire on the enemy and deal damage. (Go for the eyes!) Because it's not just 30". It can be increased to 36" if I move them forward, which I very likely will. Or 42" if I advance them. Essentially, I can hit everything in sight (and out of sight with mortars/artillery) and every shot counts.

Granted, that extra range is very useful against shooting armies, and less so against choppy armies, but that's why you bring spare squads. (They can't kill us all.)

~Cheers

All infantry is very powerful IF you are facing balanced armies. It is also very time intensive in every sense. At 1000pts it should be ok but at 2000 you better have practiced and practiced and know every rule and stat in your army. If you don't make sure you have 8 hours to kill. Remember 6 of those hours your opponent is waiting on you and your sea of annoyance. It looks good on paper and on the table but will destroy your rep as an opponent. Not a fun army to face at all in my opinion. Spam sucks. dont be that guy
