3 custodes captain to add (almost) everywhere?

I'm not a custodes specialist. But it seems that the captain on bike is a nice investment.

I'm building a primaris army.  I don't want to add old marines. I like the look of the gold boys on bikes.

Is a suprem command of 3 captain a good investment for a primaris army? I like their speed and versatility, but are they efficient enough?

A box contains 1 captain and 2 bikes: do I need to buy 3 boxes to get the 3 captains? Are they differents from the normal bike?

Let's got further : what to add to get a (minimum) battallion (with 3 captains and 3 troops) and what boxes to buy to get them (I'm really confused on the GW site)? Is it worth to have such a bataillon to add to primaris?

About the title: I also intend to get the Mechanicus battleforce (2 boxes). As I won't take the chickens with them, I'd like to add those 3 captains (suprem command or bataillon?) with those Mechanicus. So, same question goes with mechanicus

are they efficient enough?

The issue is they're too damn efficient :biggrin.:

I'd just buy a single box of bikes and call em captains, whether you choose to give them the captain head or not is up to you. I prefer the basic head with the plume filed off. Just make em captains by alternating the colour on their shoulderpads or something.

If you want a Battleforged Adeptus Custodes Battalion, the cheapest way to do it (with bike captains) is 2 bike captains and 3 x 3 Custodian Guard with spears. A better battalion is 3 x 3 Custidian Guard squads, with 2 in each unit with spears and 1 in each unit with a Sentinel Blade and Stormshield for extra survivability, but that cost more.

Thank you rcoon.

Lets go deeper: ok for the minimum bataillon with efficiency. 3x(2+1). Is it enough or should I add a flag or something to make them efficient for cheap? You know, sometimes adding a little something may change things a transform the points invested into stronger points. Are guards enough? in place, wardens? The idea is that is a batiallon not super expensive  but strong enough to be used for something.

(EDIT: so, buying only 2 boxes of guards is enough?)

I'm biased because I run pure Custodes, the issue is they take up a tonne of points, but the most efficient battalion that'll actually survive and do things is probably the following:

HQ:

Shield Captain

Shield Captain

Troops

3 x Custodian Guard, 2 x Spear 1 x Shield

3 x Custodian Guard, 2 x Spear 1 x Shield

3 x Custodian Guard, 2 x Spear 1 x Shield

Elite

Vexillus Praetor  - Spear, Vexilla Magnifica

That will give you two captains with reroll 1 bubbles for the guard, plus the Magnifica Vexilla gives all units within range a -1 to hit from enemy fire. It's a very tanky force that just never really dies to sustained fire.

On top of that you could add a Supreme Command detachment with 3 bike captains, but that doesn't leave you with many points for your Primaris army. That's why most people run an IG Battalion instead with 2 Company Commanders and 3 squads of Cadian troops. Kurov's Aquila and Grand Strategist and you get 5 CP plus a CP farm for ~270 pts.

well well well, that make 480 for captains and 489 for the 3*3 (in fact 3*(2+1)). I'll go with suprem command firts and see.... Main force is full Primaris or full Mechanicus (eventually with knight)

How to equip the captain? Misericordia? Is this a different model from the spear?

Your Supreme should ideally look like this:

Open the Vaults for 1 CP: 1 Extra Relic

Captain on Bike - Hurricane Bolter, Interceptor Lance, Warlord: Superior Creation OR Radiant Mantle, Relic: Auric Aquilis

Captain on Bike - Hurricane Bolter, Interceptor Lance, Relic: Eagle's Eye

Captain on Bike - Hurricane Bolter, Interceptor Lance

Misericordias are only worth getting if you have no other way to fill points. It's just an extra attack on top of the interceptor lance at S5 AP -2 D1. You just glue the dagger behind his hip in a slot next to the seat. I rarely run them since I manage to fill points other ways, but they are half decent to get extra wounds in.

Sorry for the noob question, but the relic eagle's eye just improve by one the invul save.

But I don't see any invul save on the captain on jetbike.

It's a custodes universal rule - Aegis of the Emperor.  It grants all custodes units a 5++ and 6+++ against mortal wounds in the psychic phase.  On top of this The Emperor's Chosen provides a +1 to invulnerable saves to custodes if they are in a pure detachment.  It's our equivalent of a chapter tactic really.

So all custodes non-vehicles have a 4++ natively in a pure detatchment, then the Eagle's Eye provides a +1 on top of that for a combined 3++.

Be sure to make one warlord give him the 3++ bike then another the 3++ helmet.

If againt guard or eldar I'd reccomend the -1 to hit trait but fnp 5+ is also good. Victor of blood games can aid if you have points to spare and for weapons pick hurricanes (except against full 2+ lists)

since you got an elite slot a deepstriking unit is also a good option

1. I my main is NOT custodes (primaris or mechanicus) may I put the warlord in the custodes suprem command bataillon?

2. In my list, I didn't plan to put the warlord in custode. In this case, is it worth putting 2 relics on them?

Always take the 3++ with reroll charge relic.

I looked through the relics and couldn't find this one. Which one is the reroll charge?

Auric aquilis gives +1 to invuln and allows the bearer to reroll charges. Eagle's Eye just gives +1 to invuln.
