Canadian_F_H
People have been using brass wire/rod for pinning fragile joints since before I got into the Hobby in '98. What sizes of wire do y'all use and for what? I was looking to get some because all I've had lately to work with is some old guitar strings... Problem is all the brass wire is in "gauge" sizes and I'm Strugglijg to visualize them as opposed to the "decimal of inch" I'm used to with guitar strings. Or mm and "fractions of inch" im used to with everything else. Thanks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351399-brass-rod-and-wire/ Share on other sites
Gederas
I'm using 1/16 Brass Rod for my Brass Scorpion's leg joints. I believe it's in inches, since I bought it at Hobby Lobby. Canadian_F_H
Well. My smallest 3 drill bits are 1/32", 3/64", and 1/16". So I'll just get the three gauges that are just a hair under those 3 bits and then i should be good to go. So... 15, 18, 21 gauges... Hmmm... Seams only even gauges are on Amazon... Canadian_F_H
I considered that. But I wished to spare my poor cutters... Because I will inevitably pick up the lighter duty hobby ones and promptly ruin them... Again... Because I will inevitably pick up the lighter duty hobby ones and promptly ruin them... Again...Is there a reason you use both types of cutters? metal cutters cut plastic and resin just fine, the other way around, not so much as you have learned. Canadian_F_H
I've had a really hard time finding flush cutters thst are small enough to fit between spru frames that are capable of cutting steel... Heck... The smallest flush cutters I've got in one pissed off moment from hitting the back side of with a right angle grinder and a 40grit zirconium flap wheel. Quixus
It looked a bit different when I bought it but I had no issues with the clippers in this set. Next time I re-up my tools I'll look into it. I've been pretty happy with a lot of things from "army painter" lately. Fajita Fan
I considered that. But I wished to spare my poor cutters... Because I will inevitably pick up the lighter duty hobby ones and promptly ruin them... Again... I use a cheap set of hardware store cutters for that and regular wire for electronics, perfectly fine. I've had a really hard time finding flush cutters thst are small enough to fit between spru frames that are capable of cutting steel... Heck... The smallest flush cutters I've got in one pissed off moment from hitting the back side of with a right angle grinder and a 40grit zirconium flap wheel. You have a Michael's or AC Moore craft store near you? I got a pair from the jewelry section that are nicer than the GW ones for half the price. Canadian_F_H
I work in oil field fabrication... I have like 3 pairs of dikes and a half dozen different needle nose pliers... Lol. Just at my hobby table I have a small pair of dikes and a pair of flush cutters... I just know I'm bound to grab the flush cutters and turn them loose on a steel wire... I used to use an awesome pair of little cutters for trimming hamster teeth from a pet store but those are the ones I ruined on steel core guitar strings of all things... Oh well... 20 years ago me was an idiot. Hahaha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351399-brass-rod-and-wire/#findComment-5199811 Share on other sites
