Taliesin
I'm looking for some books that have a good showing if the Genestealers as I find them a very interesting faction. What books would you recommend that have good info and scenes with them? Morovir
If you want Genestealer Cults, Peter Fehervari's Cult of the Spiral Dawn is your best bet, though I would advise after reading the prologue, reading the short story included in the book before going on with the novel. Grey Angel
Their is one book I’d definitely recommend, but if I told you it may ruin the plot for you! Tichinde
The old Deathwing book? I seem to remember it featuring Genestealers, probably a bit out of date though... aa.logan
Cult of the Spiral Dawn is great as it gives more on the side of the ‘stealers- Steve Parker’s Deathwatch is a good book with them in, but I don’t remember at here being as much of a focus on them forming their cult as their was on them being torn apart; the second McNiven Space Sharks book has them as antagonists too and is a lot of fun. I’m probably showing my age here, but my favourite genestealer cult appearance is the first I read- in book 3(?) of Ian Watson’s Inquisitor Trilogy; the cult is scary, alien and nicely embedded in the host society. Genestealers descending from rock pillars in a desert when they’d be mistaken for holy hermits is one my my favourite images in a BL book... SkimaskMohawk
I really really liked rob macs in the last hunt Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351427-best-genestealer-appearances-in-bl/#findComment-5198767 Share on other sites
caladancid
One more vote for Peter Fehervari Cult of the Spiral Dawn (or as it was called originally, Genestealer Cults haha) as the best GSC read. Steve Parker's Deathwatch is also very very good but focuses a bit more on the DW side of things (title gives it away). And finally, Last Hunt by RobMac is excellent. DarkChaplain
Cult of the Spiral Dawn is definitely it. There's really no way around this one. FirstSonofHorus
Cult of the Spiral Dawn is BL's best book and on of the few that would standalone in general fiction. I know it has been mentioned already but it is magnificent. DukeLeto69
Not that it needs it but I will give another vote for Cult of the Spiral Dawn / GSC - not only is it a great book about genestealers but it is also one of the best books ever published by BL. Simply awesome with only one drawback (not the fault of the author) - it is too short. Agree with the recommendation to read the short story first. DarkChaplain
It honestly makes me happy to see this level of acclaim for Cult of the Spiral Dawn, when the original release under the Legends of the Dark Millennium label was so badly marketed, and Fehervari's previous works flew so far under the radar for most fans. Gives me hope that Requiem Infernal will catch on and sell out right away. Gederas
Genestealers and Genetsealer Cutls appear in one of the Ciaphas Cain novels, specifically For the Emperor. It also has Tau involved. I won't say more, but it;s really quite interesting. Orwell84
Add yet another vote for Cult of the Spiral Dawn. I haven't read RobMac's second Carcharodon novel yet so can't speak to that, but the old Deathwing short story by Ian Watson features the aftermath of a cult's successful takeover on the Dark Angels' apocryphal homeworld. Genestealer cultists also make an appearance in the second Word Bearer novel by Anthony Reynolds. Gongsun Zan
If you enjoy Cult of the Spiral Dawn, I would strongly reccommend checking out Peter Fehervari's other works as they're all loosely connected (and also because he's awesome). Specifically on GSC, if you don't mind spoilers: Check out The Greater Evil as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351427-best-genestealer-appearances-in-bl/#findComment-5200074 Share on other sites
Jareddm
Check out The Greater Evil as well This was easily the most creative approach to genestealers I'd ever seen Having also read The Outer Dark, the GSC put up a pretty solid representation as well, if with a bit more of a traditional approach. Master Ciaphas
Hail! Yes, indeed - PF's "Cult of the Spiral Dawn" was magnificient in a malignant, twisted fashion. I loved it! And promptly went and bought a stack of his short stories to read more about his "Dark Spiral" story arc. Another good showing of Genestealers is the olde Space Marine Battles series - Death of Integrity. When I first read it, I was not amazed, but in retrospect, it is actually are very tight book! Faithfully, Master Ciaphas Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351427-best-genestealer-appearances-in-bl/#findComment-5200184 Share on other sites
