Help building a list to beat SW

Hey all,

I have a friend who has a vanilla SM army (Raven Guard successors) and he seems to really be struggling to beat my Space Wolves in just about every game. I realize that vanilla SM may be the best matchup for SW (Emperor's Executioners and all that), but I know the games should be closer than they have been.

I haven't been playing anything too crazy (no Wulfen, lots of Grey Hunters, etc.) and I just wanted to ask you guys what you would bring to beat the Rout.

I really like the TFC idea because of the Tremor Shells stratagem. It would really neuter whatever my scariest melee unit is each round.

He really hates primaris marines, but I'll try to talk him into getting a few. The inceptors really seem strong.

Yeah, I empathize with him on that, but I reckon 12 plasma spitting jump turtles are about as anti MEQ as C:SM units get.

Drop an Inceptor from each squad and you nearly have enough for the TFC.  You could skim the last bit of points by downgrading the Captains' toys to cheaper alternatives.  Or, you could replace the Raven's multi-melta with a heavy bolter and get a few extra points to burn elsewhere.  Aside from the Wolf Redemptor, there doesn't seem to be much need for the multi-melta, while the rest of the gunboat is already well suited to mowing down big numbers of infantry.  With heavy bolters, assault cannons and hurricanes, the Raven could make short work of all those Fenrisian Wolves.  Throw in the TFC and he's got a pretty decent defense against those bitey buggers.

Doesn't 5 units of Fenrisian wolves break the rule of 3?

Yeah, honestly I didn't even think about this until you mentioned it. We were just playing a casual game but I probably should've grouped them up into 3 squads instead. It had no impact on the game, however. The board we were playing on had tons of ruins and all of the objectives were on the 2nd floors of buildings, so none of the fen. wolves could interact with anything important all game. They basically just ran around the board doing nothing (except giving up kill points).
