Knight Houses - Conversions, Paint Schemes and all!

Given my large collection of unpainted 2" mechs, I was thinking of getting a few AT knights to make another force (and get some kickass transfers & parts for my Inq28 projects). Please show me your conversions and paint schemes for inspiration! I know the heads are supposed to swap almost perfectly with WHFB skeleton skulls.

WHFB skeleton skulls are very easy to use. I drilled a small hole to insert a 1x1mm magnet so I can swap it with the "classical" knight head. I also saw online conversions using heads from Necron Deathmarks and heads from Chaos knights and space marines.

No progress painting them yet, I'm still unsure about the paint scheme I want. So far I have not gone past spraying leadbelcher and shading with Nuln oil.

Nice work! I'm hoping to use the Knight heads on various Inq28 models, so my plan is to swap most if not all of them out for 28mm helmets and skulls.

I was also thinking of leaving off as much plate as possible, but I'm not sure how good that would look overall.

These are definitely brilliant! I did wonder what might otherwise work/fit, but I'm tempted to diversify further if that's the effect. Really good examples Mendi!

Great idea for a thread. I’ll put my House Taranis in later (like Fajita Fan says, can’t do it from phone).

Anyone done any House Coldshroud? As mentioned in previous threads, am thinking of doing my remaining unbuilt titans as Gryphonicus and Coldshroud would be a good supporting house.

So am looking for inspiration!

I wish I had kept some Ravenwing transfers and I could do House Ravenclaw.

A couple of my Knights:

My first AT conversion, using Stormtrooper powerfists to make Knight Gallants.

A quick Khorne conversion for a small banner to support my eventual 40k themed legio:

Coldshroud is one of three major allied War Houses for the Legio Gryphonicus. Having strong ties both with the Legion itself aswell as the Gryphone Octade, the scions of Yana VI make use of both the War Griffon and icons of the Mechanicum. It should be noted that the sacred red was mostly used by Mars itself and those who stand close to it - a practice that would change after the Adeptus Mechanicus was created, when red was both seen as a gift and chain to newly founded Questor Mechanicus Houses. In case of House Coldshroud, it served as "bonded" or Questor Titanicus House - and so its colours are derived from the Legio Gryphonicus itself. Although House Coldshroud would suffer heavy looses during the Heresy, both on Paramar and Beta-Garmon, it would survive - and its proud yellow Scions still stand alongside the War Griffons and Gryphone IV to this day.

Note: Questoris Knight Gallant Occasus, steed of Baroness Tiabeanie; aswell as Questoris Knight Errant Susurrator and Questoris Knight Paladin Somniator with their Scions Martial Luci and Elfo.

Wow, they look amazing. Thanks for posting Atia.

Which gold and yellows did you use for those? Some of the GW images have silver metallics instead of gold, did you consider doing them that way at any point? The gold looks great but I wonder if the silver would be good contrast.

Taranis is from mars and wears blue tho

I don't know why I should have to debate about fluff that's actually partly taken from the Forgeworld Horus Heresy Black Books. Please go back in time and tell Alan that red wasn't used mostly by Mars and it's friends. Bet he would be pleased to know that. Morbidia btw would be an example for a marsian knight house that's red. Or in other words - I never said Mars only uses red, I said the right to wear red was something reserved mostly for Mars and close friends.

I think Taranis had midnight blue in the book Mechanicum but then again the Dark Angels apparently shifted to green because a studio painter didn’t check the notes.

Afaik it's also not 100% set in the studio either regarding Taranis - as the Knight Codex states they always were red iirc.

Thanks! When I get a chance I’ll post up the mechanicum ones one here. The lancers didn’t turn out as well as the questoris but they are still visually different.

I think next I want to do a banner of carastus with tridents and custom shields...
