Deschenus Maximus
I'm contemplating a shooty VV squad featuring a mix of bolt and plasma pistols, with a few stormshields thrown in for good measure.I thought about creating a gunslinging Vanguard for Deathwatch. 2x plasma as a Dark Angel 2x grav as an Iron Hand 2x bolt as an Imperial Fist 2x Inferno as a Blood Angel 2x hand flamer as a Salamander It's probably a silly idea, but would be neat. Would be awesome-looking, for sure. What I'm likely going to try is: Sgt w/ 2 Plasma Pistols Vet w/ 2 Bolt Pistols Vet w/ Plasma Pistol and Stormshield Vet w/ Bolt Pistol and Stormshield Vet w/ Plasma Pistol and Bolt Pistol Ran as Sallies It seems like a weird setup, but the intent is to have the squad's offensive and defensive profiles degrade at the same rate. UnkyHamHam
Is there a place for the Relic Blade, and a case for fists over hammers now with point drops? Are gunslingers more viable with plasma pistol drops now? Captain Idaho
Yeah I'm all over the cheaper power fists. For 215pts I can have a 10 man squad with 5 Storm Shields (red shirts) and 5 Power Fists. That's pretty good. The Relic Blade is very effective but it's a case of which target you want to attack. I'm aiming for my Vanguard to punch to death just about anything (Victrix Guard) so would prefer the S8. Jacques Corbin
Well, given that Chapter Approved is now out, and both Plasma Pistols and Storm Shields are now cheaper, perhaps a Jump Captain, with a Plasma Pistol, and a squad of Vanguard with Plasma Pistols, and a mix of Power Weapons or Storm Shields. That is a lot of plasma, very mobile, and supercharged with impunity. That actually might be much better to Deep Strike than to start on the table. Captain Idaho
Gunslinger Vanguard is interesting. Might be an expensive way to put 20 Plasma shots on a target but I WANT someone to make that succeed! Panzer
Dunno, ever since we got Plasma Inceptors I don't see the appeal in Plasma gunslinger Vanguard Vets anymore. Neither thematically nor crunch-wise. Captain Idaho
Tougher to kill (3 Inceptors are still fairly easy to kill) but I agree for the points. Vanguard with Plasmas are probably better as close combat specialists with some shooting utility thrown in.
