Kasper_Hawser
In the last games eldar bikes have moved twice and wiped out my long fangs turn 1 how can I counter this? Thinking about taking custodes instead Not sure about the context therefore do not know how to advise you. Did they die to shooting or assault? What type of jetbikes, Windrider or Shining spears or Warlocks on bikes? Or was it even psychic phase? What was the rest of your army like? There are too many things we don't know. Nevertheless, I will try give my 2 cents as I managed to beat such a list of double shining spears before. In any case, my general advice is that deployment of your forces is key. Assuming your opponent has at least two such units of super fast bikes, the general counter plan is to castle up, protecting your heavy firepower and forcing them to attack your less valuable units, which is normally the venerable rhino. Typically, my Long Fangs would be in cover in first place, either on top floor where the Jet Bikes won't be able to jump if you cover the whole floor, or on the Ground Floor where the Jet Bikes cannot see. In cover, even if the eldar rolles sixes for bladestorm AP-3, you should still have a 5+ to save. In the meatime, you need to literally cover your base and behind with the rest of your army, like rhinos, razorbacks, even chaff units like Fen wolves so that the jetbikes can't use their double movement to suddenly end up in the middle of your army and snipe your characters and other important units. (not sure how they pull it off but I know it can be done, either through strategem or spell). Protect your heavy firepower so they can shoot and for the love of God, make sure you have a Plan B when they come in! Plan B nowadays can be used with our characters 6" heroic intervention and have them smash the pansy elves. In the end, also bear in mind that jetbikes eldar are typically only T4 with 3++ on Shining Spears, 4++ on normal windriders. Even with chainswords, you should be able to make short work of them. killersquid
Is this craftworld eldar soulbursting, or Harlequins Jetbikes moving twice with a spell? In either case, the best bet is to anticipate the move, and block him from charging your valuable units with a screen. Fen wolves do this well. Or offer up a bait unit for your opponent to charge, and then counter attack. PeteySödes
Against shining spears, I’ve found you can bait them with something big and scary then counterpunch with something like wulfen. Jet bikes are also one of the last reasons I still like lucius pods. Escpecially with the wulfen dread. Escpecially with the wulfen dread. Basically what my esteemable fellow warriors are saying is, be tactical and plan ahead to bait him to fighting less valuable and then counter charge his pansy and squishy butt (though dont underestimate their defences, with some trickery, they can be stupidly tough). Best unit for counter charge is either Murderfang or a couple of characters with good S5 weapons so they can heroic intervention. Again deployment is key, make sure bikes don't end up on the upper floors where your dreadnoughts cannot reach. Even if it means exposing a Grey hunter squad or two. greysquigg
I've found TWC to be pretty good against them. They struggle to get past those big bases and they also struggle to kill them. And if they do so what! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351535-eldar-bikes/#findComment-5202514 Share on other sites
Kallas
Important to remember that FLY won't let them jump over enemy models when charging any longer, so use that for a more effective screen - don't leave enough space for them to jump on between the screen and target, then they won't really be able to charge their preferred target. Also worth a note, throw armour of russ on whatever character is intervening near the bait...and hopefully kill some bikes before they even get to strike Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351535-eldar-bikes/#findComment-5202679 Share on other sites
greysquigg
We do tend to like to bunch stuff up these days. For certain, the armour of russ will make your opponent think twice about charging anything. I second murderfang. While it's hard to move past the large bases on the TWC and still keep the unit in squad coherency, he does pack a punch. If you're taking murderfang though and don't need the speed, Logan is better for the same points. He's better because he's also buffing your entire army's worth of shooting.
