Jupiter Forge
Hey there, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, but couldn't think of another board for it here - I was browsing Pinterest for color and conversion ideas, when I came across this image. It looks like a cross between a Blood Angel & Night Lord, with a kind of Black Templar Cross. Then it's got very Blood-Angely iconography on the leg, blood-vials on the hips, and a wing on the weapon. It's highly possible it's just some chapter that's not cannon, and the artist just thought it looked awesome - but I'd love to know, either way, as it's one of the best images of a Marine I've seen in a long time. I even started trying to look for any torsos on ebay and shapeways that had similar iconography, as I got it into my head I may want to make a marine or two of my own based on it. Anyone have any ideas? I can't even place the marking on the 90% hidden shoulder pad. I thought perhaps Red Hunter or Exorcists, but it doesn't quite fit. Cheers, J.F. N1SB
I hope I'm spelling this right, but I think that's the Exsanguinators Chapter. Indefragable
I think I remember seeing that on the artstation or such profile of a concept artist that—I think—did concept art for the Eternal Crusade game. If I remember (and this is going into the under hive of my memory) correctly, he said it was supposed to be a Deathwatch Warden or something. I think older fluff talked about different ranks and roles in the Deathwatch then the more recent Codexes and such have described. Wardens were honor-guard-esque SM who guarded the secret scary things kept at the Watch Fortresses. Like artistic Orkz, fat Eldar, sentient Tyranids, and peaceful Imperials with Coexist bumper stickers... EDIT: disregard. I was getting it mentally mixed up with this: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Deathwatch_Keeper Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351557-identifying-a-successor-from-an-image/#findComment-5203060 Share on other sites

N1SB has it right, the picture is an Exsanguinator, specifically an Exsanguinator-Honour Guard by Diego Gisbert Llorens. He's also the artist who did the covers of Martyrs of Elysia and Carcharodons: Outer Dark. Lynnean
Exsanguinators indeed! I play them myself! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351557-identifying-a-successor-from-an-image/#findComment-5203267 Share on other sites
Majkhel
Also the bat-like thing is not that much Night Lords-style as it is more in line with the old vampiric theme of the Blood Angels. Jupiter Forge
Awesome, thanks so much guys! I knew posting it here would pay off! I had thought the weapon looked like a Deathwatch one I'd seen before, however as it was on a red-amoured Marine I didn't think it'd be the case. As for what it is, an Exsanguinator, I actually looked at the 40k-wikia & lexicanum pages on them while searching for what chapter it could be, but as it just listed a picture of the Imperial Eagle, I brushed it off. Cheers again! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351557-identifying-a-successor-from-an-image/#findComment-5203324 Share on other sites
Indefragable
Ah ha! I thought it was Diego! I was actually combing through his work to verify, but didn't see it. Good catch. Cheers again! Marine pages on the 40k-Wikia with just an Imperial Eagle means there's no image of a marine or their chapter badge, like the Exsanguinators. So, because there's no images, Diego's is essentially the closest "canon" image we have to the Exsanguinators, as he's done artwork for Games Workshop before. Jupiter Forge
Cheers for the explanation Gederas! Firepower
God I love that art. The artist used to frequently post his stuff on BnC. Yep there's a plethora of chapters out there who are literally just a name and bunch that are just a chapter symbol plus some more who maybe have a 2nd or 3rd ed example figure and nothing more. The two existing pieces of art are so awesome they really are the unofficial first and last word on the Exsanguinator's look.
